I know it seems to be pretty accepted that Nike products are essentially made by at best sweatshop workers and at worst forced slave labor of political prisoners In China. Is any of this substantiated though? Do they have any manufacturing in the US? Did they ever? Any other countries. I’d like to know more about their products and where they come from. I’d rather educate myself than just keep spouting off talking points I’ll admit I’ve never done any research about.

All of that is rumor and most likely made up. What we do know, is that they make a lot of money.

Nb4 they lost ....$..... this year. No shite, we aren’t having sports

Haha...yeah right. It's most likely worse than we know because of the countries they are made in.

If it leads to scholarly sources TD can be a good place to at least collect information. I don’t need to take it all as the gospel

Here's an idea:
You presented the topic.
You do the research and report back on your findings.

They outsource it all and can throw their hands up and say we werent running that textile mill so its not us!

Look up the Citarum river in Indonesia and Buriganga River in Bangladesh where there are hundreds maybe thousand of textile mills that just runoff straight into the river.

Nike clothes are 100% being made there at some large quantity. Or at least the base fabrics.

Slave labor financed by kind Wall Street masters.

But they are well treated. If you have any doubts about their treatment, look on page 84 of the slave's Bill of Sale.

Based on our information, The Post’s Anna Fifield visited a shoe factory in Qingdao producing sneakers for Nike and found that it resembled a prison, with barbed wire, watchtowers, surveillance cameras and a dedicated police station. Uighur workers at the factory, she was told, did not come on their own accord, nor could they return home for the holidays. Even amid the covid-19 outbreak, Uighurs are still being transported to central Hunan province, an area that has been heavily affected by the virus

Yep. Slaves are happy! More countries should use slave labor!

(Need a sarcasm font here so our posts can't be taken out of context.)

Sure, but how else can they produce a shoe for less than a dollar that they market for $190 to children of single mothers.

Thanks Lebron!... you're the Wokest!!!

They certainly aren’t nearly as oppressed as nba and nfl players.

Just think, when they are chained to their sewing machines making LeBron James shoes, at least they don’t have to suffer through being Offended.

I’d just assume all major brands and even smaller brands have stuff made in ways you’d potentially be disturbed by.

Unless the brand discloses fair trade or good work conditions regarding how their product is made, (which could be PR move only) you better make sure they have plenty of receipts and outside sources confirming it’s true.

I’ll start this by saying I dumped Nike stock after the Kaepernick bs so I have no love for Nike. But, I have visited 3 factories in Guangdong province.

As said, Nike does not own the factories they just contract out different parts and pieces to different factories. The 3 I visited did in fact have big fences, barb wire, etc. The fences were there to keep people out, not in. Those factories paid well above going rates so there was always a huge crowd of people outside trying to get in.

The workers were fed 2 meals each day. We ate the food and it was great, probably one of the better meals I had in China. There were organized break times where some would go do kung foo looking shite while others played badminton. That was odd. They also had afternoon nap time.

Now, the conditions were not OSHA style safety but I would guess they were on par or better than what existed around China.

I’m pretty confident that what I saw was not staged and was a normal day in the life of those factories. I was there on a family trip bc my BIL lived there and was the onsite Nike rep. He told us everything we saw was normal so I believe it. He also said Nike would pull contracts on the reg if conditions were subpar. This was late 90’s. That’s my $0.02.

Workers in America will claim to be slaves. Look at the ones wanting to march for $15/hour pay for a job at McDonald's.
Plenty of manufacturing grunts (called "team members" by the upper management) will say they're slave treated. Look at the stories you hear about at the Amazon warehouses, no breaks, etc.
I imagine the truth if the Chinese shoe factories is they're treated not very well, but it's not as bad as some portray

My company does a lot of overseas production, a lot in China. In one of the projects we worked on the factory manager didn't negotiate the price properly, so when it came time for payment they were expecting us to pay them a commission on top of the agreed price. We told them we were only going to pay the price we agreed on from the initial quote, eventually they said it was fine, they just won't pay their workers.

I don't think we've used that factory again.
