My 16 year old son just got home from cruising town with friends and hanging out at a local restaurant. They usually don’t hang out on the couch with old folks.

one of the girls was obviously the daughter of an Indian convienence store owner, and she had a deep Southern drawl just like a girl from rural or small-town middle Georgia is supposed to have.
When I was a young teen in the '80s I saw a TV interview with a Chinese teenager who had as thick a Mississippi accent as I've ever heard. An' Ah mean a THICK un', boy. I still recall how jarring that was.

I learned recently that there is a tiny Chinese community in the Delta that has been there since the 19th century.

we were always getting together for parties at people’s houses, on the River, meet ups, teen hangouts like Frisco’s, Coney Island, Fastimes, local McDonalds, and later on all the bar hopping and nightlife.

Then it occurred to me that I never see teenagers or young adults much these days doing anything like that
Do you still hang out at these places?

at all the people here putting a time limit on their kids playing video games, why put a time limit on a hobby? People make millions off of professionally gaming.

I've got a buddy who's half Japanese and he's probably the most redneck dude I know. Bud light, constantly dipping, boots, awful tattoo, thick accent, you name it

Volunteered at a vaccine clinic yesterday and was stationed with a college freshman. I asked her about the social life. She said there is no bar scene and she doesn't even know anyone with a fake ID. Lots of partying off campus though. This is Virginia.

My oldest is almost 13. She talks to her friends constantly, but they never get together. Like, she has no clue where 2 of her best friends even live. It’s very weird to me. I tell her often that she’s welcome to have sleepovers or get together with them anytime she’d like, but none of them initiate anything. I don’t know if it’s a result of parents arranging all play dates when they were younger, so it doesn’t occur to the kids to plan themselves, or what.

They sit in their respective homes, watching dumbass YouTube videos & talking about it.

have 2 in college and they did a lot of that stuff you’re speaking of prior to the rona. Just yesterday I passed by about 15 kids or so out playing tackle football, looked to be elementary age
yes but OP didn’t see them. Or maybe he chose not to, so that he can have his “kids these days” narrative, like every old man has said since like the 1400’s.

In my neighborhood there are kids playing outside all the time.

I thought you took care of our friend over there.

When I go see my parents I still see kids out looping, err driving from one end of town to the other, and big groups of them meeting in a parking lot. Basically, what we did but I doubt its quite the same given the local sheriff is one of those former local hell raisers turned cop guys.

Mine does regular teen things like bowling, going out to dinner, hanging out at friends house, LSU baseball games, hanging out at home with her boyfriend. Rarely does she go to parties and the last one she went to she couldn’t even get in because so many idiots were already there.

You just described my 14 year old. She has sleepovers sometimes but like once a year.

They watch other people play video games on Twitch.

Literally. Their lives revolve around watching other people do shite.

Tell you how to end all this Covid shite, and the lack of nightlife these days. Get rid of the internet, and everyone would walk outside and meet their neighbors for the first time, and after a few days they’d be looking for something to do. Give it a few weeks and you’d see bowling alleys, movie theaters, bars/clubs, restaurants, malls, etc packed with people, and talking with one another again.

That’s pretty much every one of us too. For all technology has done to make our lives easier, it’s also crippled us, and I’m convinced, made us a little weird and introverted as well.

KIDS TODAY ARE BOTH TOTALLY UNLIKE AND INFINITELY WORSE THAN KIDS OF MY DAY was pretty much one of the first things written on cave walls Mike
