Their house had an automatic dishwasher and maybe an in-ground pool.

They lived in the “nice” neighborhood. Not a normal one like us schlubs. We were all in the usual 3 bed/1 bath but made it work.
When you went to somebody’s crib that had more than one bathroom, you were in awe.

I'm not a kid and still think this means you're pretty rich.

I lived in a small home in a trailer park. I thought I was rich and my parents didn’t let me think otherwise. I’ve always I thought I was blessed even though my perspective has changed throughout the years.

Same.

I am probably OT poor but we make over 6 figures while I am back in school but 6 figures isn't like it was when I was making it in the early 2000's.

Growing up McDonalds was a rarity and we would get Cheese pizza a couple times during lent from a REAL pizza place, not a frozen pizza. Of course the pizza place ran a lent special making it dirt cheap... EVERYTHING was generic, name brand foods like sunkist and froot loops only came on Christmas Morning. Hell, in high school I worked to pay my moms mortgage.... it was always a "loan" but I never expected nor got that back. My mom always worked at least 2 jobs, she just never made very much.

Now we throw our kids theme party's wherever they want, they get to eat out when we let them, we don't do it often due to health concerns vs money constraints. They have internet everywhere. I make sure they have name brand shoes, and a good pair, they simply are better for your feet and hold up better if you select correctly. I got my first pair of Nikes in 8th grade! My grandmother bought them for me at a discount store that usually didn't have name brands... I put my kids mostly in reebok but they hold up. They quite possibly can't want for anything. I think the oldest would like to attend more live pro games, but it is more of a time constraint than a money problem. School for me, School for them, PT gig for me, FT gig for the wife, making the trips gets hard but I'll hit up some games between semesters with him.

I guess I sort of drug this out, but I remember my cousin my age would get the newest gaming system, a bunch of games, new color tv's ever couple of years, all kinds of name brand hats and clothes and I got a 13" black and white TV for my room when I was a teenager and used rabbit ears... It played my Nintendo (This was when the SNES was out for a LONG time) but a lot of games were hard to play in black and white. I remember having to work for that RF adapter because NOBODY knew you needed it to hook it up to the TV. Anyway, we didn't have money, but I made it.

The kids that didn't have to do fundraisers for out of state school trips. I think of all of the Saturdays that I hauled my arse to Krispy Kreme to pick up and deliver donuts at 7:00 am on a Saturday morning just to pay for our Florida trip for soccer.
