Not a bad place, mind, but to call the Japanese weird is an understatement. Not just weird to Americans, but to Europeans, to Africans, to other Asians.
The last time I was in Japan, I was with a Burmese friend, who mistakenly went into a brothel, thinking it was a bar. He came back out, whiter than I was, saying 'These people are f'd in the head'.
