What can we, as citizens, do to reduce crime? I love Baton Rouge and south Louisiana in general. What is happening here and Nola isn't good for ANY people living in our area, politicians included.

As parents, we're raising our kids to be God-fearing, law-abiding, and good humans with dignity and decency. I've worked with troubled teens, volunteered at the food bank, and worked with church ministry, but I believe I can do more. Really, I'm so sad for our little area of the country. It doesn't have to be this way.

Not a damn thing. These are headwinds that can't be solved by any of your best intentions.

For starters, political change in both cities which is easier said than done!

Nothing.

You’re right.

There are plenty of places on the planet that are what you seek.

They have little in common with Baton Rouge or NOLA.

Good ppl need to do what's necessary.

Make the criminals feel uncomfortable, make them fear retaliation, bc DA's and judges have made it perfectly clear they won't hold criminals accountable.

Crack some skulls and lock up the thugs. It's not hard and worked for MANY years until cops were forced to be soft.

Call in the national guard and start locking people up with harsh sentences.

Obviously there's nothing you can do other than fighting back IF you're willing to risk getting shot, and just not making yourself an easy target. And by that I mean, getting in and out of your car quickly, not sitting on your phone in your car, etc..

Sad that residents of south Louisiana need to worry about that, but that's the reality of the situation. Glad I moved away.

but they will hold the whites that retaliate accountable.

Its the same principle as "gun control" laws. They are only for the people who are already following the law. the criminals that use guns in crimes dont care if there is a new law on guns.

It requires acknowledging uncomfortable truths about the largest predictors behind criminal behavior. This is something no one in power wants to be honest about, so nothing can be done.

speaking of which, Hanoi Jane just won't go away,

“If a corporation can be defined as a person, why not redefine vaginas as AK47s,” the 84-year-old actress and activist tweeted Tuesday. “That way they’d be free of governmental restrictions by those who care about ‘the sanctity of life.'”

I think about this all the time honestly.
And moving away isn’t the answer long term. I agree it will get you out and into a better situation but that just makes wherever you leave a hell hole even faster.

This will accelerate the city’s destruction and those shitty citizens will eventually look for solace as well. See Californians to TX.

These people are locusts. You have to deal with the problem even if it’s hard and takes years.

You're so right. Many people I know are carrying at all times now.

The amount of random shootings lately in south BR is astonishing.

This all boils down to political leadership.

Criminals will always do what they do. When you have mayors, DA's, and judges who are all looking for approval from the trendy political pundits, then you'll see what you're seeing now.
