The age at which you are to old to function without constant assistance. It’s different for everyone.

After the Game of Thrones books are completed. You’re essentially immortal.

Good question. I think it depends, obviously. My dad is 84, still independent, goes fishing, feels good. He doesn’t want to go anywhere. He’s enjoying his grandkids, loves watching the Tigers play, etc.

At the same time, he has many friends who have passed. Some suddenly, but others after having lost the ability to care for themselves. So, I’d say that is the point where it is time. He’s afraid of that happening to him. I would be too.

Yeah I don't want to be immobile and in a aid home or anything, I had enough of hospitals already over the last couple of years - there's no dignity in going out like that IMO.

When the checkbook balance is $10. I’ve told the kids if there is $10 left when I die I miscalculated.

Father passed away at 84, but for the last few years had Alzheimers. Otherwise, he was healthy.
Mother is now 91, in a retirement home, basically wheelchair bound and mostly bored out of her mind. Her mind is still mostly there, just been through a number of Covid quarantines that have confined her to her room with limited guests, if any. She seems depressed.
Meanwhile, the inlaws are both in their early 80s, and for the most part, doing fine.

So, to answer the question, I'd say as long as your health hangs on.

Enjoy the journey because we all end up going back to the dust. My Dad is super healthy at 81 years old. Goes out dancing every week chasing blue haired beauties. Exercises every day for about an hour both cardio and resistance. Eats a strict keto diet. Keeps his mind active with Youtube health videos and enjoys music. Can't stop talking about Harold Perkins and keeps saying, "It's great! To Be! An LSU Tiger! If he keeps this up I can see him going for another 20 years.

Moms 80
Dad is 77

Mom has some healthy problems but still getting around, dad still goes out and cuts grass, etc….. almost daily in summer but has a few early onset health concerns

Me personally I’d want to live till my quality of life gets bad and I can no longer care for myself.

As long as I put live my kids and get to meet most my grandkids I’ll be ok. I doubt I outlive my wife she’s 18 years younger so when I’m 70 she will be 52.

Before:
- you run out of $
- you become a burden to your family or society
- you have a substantial erosion of your mental capacity

Think it just depends. I’ve had some really vibrant patients in their late 80s/90s who are still really active and independent. Then I have some people who seem to be about done at 62.
