Part of the tradition is to inflict bloody lacerations and bruised facial areas on one another to display as a badge of honor.

It's a very old and out-modded tradition whose time has come and gone. If the new cadets want to get some of their body parts bloodied, they can cancel the pillow fight and replace it with a Road March with 50 pound rucksack, weapon, ammo. The road march will be of sufficient duration to ensure that they all have bloody blistered pulp instead of feet.

Then they can all feel great about themselves as they hobble to class for the next week.

Next thing you know, they'll be banning the annual tickle fight on the basis that too much laughter is torture because it makes some cadets cry from the overstimulation.
