We are going to feel the pain

quote:

Why it matters: In a much-awaited address, Powell was blunt about the likelihood that bringing down inflation will come at the expense of the solid labor market that's been beneficial to workers and softer business conditions. But he indicated the Fed does not intend to reverse course and cut rates just because of such softening.

Buckle up!

It blows my mind people thought it was a good idea to shut our country down during Covid. From Trump, to some of the GOP governors, to democrats across the country and the citizens agreeing with them. Absolutely mind blowing, restricting businesses, the citizens, everything, still can't believe it happened.

I'd vote Trump again, just can't believe he folded and agreed to the shut down.

Ready to buckle!

It's time businesses don't have to extend stupid wages to the bottom tier of workers

The fact that many readers have to be told that something matters let alone why it matters should scare the shite out of anyone who has to pay taxes.

I guess the "Inflation Reduction Act" didn't do much, other than reducing inflation by 0.1% according to economists from Wharton Business School, why wasn't the administration listening to the science.

Trump hired the worst possible people, fired them and hired the second worst.

He's a decent demagogue, but he's no leader. Trump is basically a professional agitator, and he loves the drama.

Probably, but I think they all would. 10 years ago, no doubt, vast majority of this country would have fought those shutdowns, absolutely no doubt. It wasn't that long ago even democrats were against too much gov't authority, it's a shame they lost that. Trump agreeing to a temporary shutdown was the most pissed off I ever got at him. I didn't agree with a lot of what he did or said, but agreed with more than I disagreed, but man that was a bad idea to fold like that.

Powell still blaming everything possible, except COVID monetary policy.

He does this because if he admits COVID monetary policy caused the inflation we are seeing now then he would have to resign in shame.

I support him allowing States and Cities to craft their own policy. Where he failed was bailing them out.

Until you put local and state govt on the hook for their own actions, you'll continue to get shitty policy.

I very well may be remembering wrong but I believe he did a shutdown among much of the federal employees. I'm fine with leaving it up to the states, but iirc he enacted a shutdown also on federal level. I remember him talking about enacting a temporary shutdown and I just saw red after that, I quit following politics soon after for a long time, maybe I'm remembering wrong.

I agree and disagree. People were forced out of work by politicians, while half the country cheered them being forced out of work. You can't let your people starve or lose their homes. Gov't forced them out of work, gov't needs to send them money. The problem was the forcing them out of work due to restrictions and shutdowns, should have never happened in the first place. If Trump didn't agree to bailouts, he would have received half the votes he got.

Not sure if that was his doing, I believe bureaucrats were responsible. Not sure the President can do much about that.

I didn't vote for him, I don't trust his hires nor his leadership style. He's surely not as bad as Democrats believe, but he had a chance to do some amazing things, and failed.
