Well Water vs City Water in Prairieville?

So I'm in a situation where I can get a tie in and have Baton Rouge city water for the new house I'm building. Other option is to have a well put in like everyone else on the street.(I'm the last going in and city wasn't an option for everyone else)
Anyone have an opinion on well vs city? As I understand it I'm not paying the city for water if I have a well but I don't know what those things cost to install or maintain.

St. George water >> Prairieville water

Tie into the city water for the house, well for irrigation and emergency backup. That's what I have, and I also use the well to top off my pond. The well water does have a slightly sulfuric smell to it.

1) Baton Rouge has some of the best drinking water in the country
2) Water wells are a pain in the arse. We have one and I'd give anything to have city water again

That was my thinking. Seems like well is just one more thing to break.
