Let us not forget “Significant Weather Advisory” and “Tornado Emergency”

I don’t see the problem with tornado emergency. It’s usually used to warn about violent, long-track tornadoes, right? Tornado warning is used for any indication of a possible tornado

We live in the age of induced, addictive anxiety. 24/7 media’s stock in trade is to keep reeling those viewers in.

No they're not.

And there's a distinct difference in a cold front and a polar vortex. A cold front will come through and bring cooler temps. A polar vortex drops and its likely going to sit on your area for a few weeks with significantly lower temps.

A couple years ago we had a solid 2-3 weeks of below zero temps here in Kentucky because of the polar vortex. Two totally different things.

Why did they abandon Alberta Clipper? You never hear that one anymore.

I think they just call it a clipper now days. I remember learning about the Colorado low, Alberta Clipper and the NorEasterner in a climatology class.

Weather people throw highly technical words around like chiropractors. They need to, to market themselves.
Weathermen & girls = chiropractors
Meteorologists = actual healthcare providers

Sorta.

I will wait for OT Team Meteorologist “The Boat” to provide comments before I draw my own conclusions on this matter.

Thank you,

The media likes to use the term "bomb cyclone." It refers to a real meteorological phenomenon known as bombogenesis where a cyclonic low pressure area rapidly deepens in pressure. Every time there is a storm system around the U.S. that goes through bombogenesis, we get the "BOMB CYCLONE IMPACTING MILLIONS" headline.

“Tornado Emergency”

Tornado Emergency has a real and specific meaning/purpose. It is not its own warning, but is an enhancement to the existing tornado warning. It is simply to provide extra emphasis to the tornado warning by highlighting that there is a significant tornado on the ground impacting a populated area.

Then they cut to some field correspondent pretending to be blown over by the wind, or some info babe standing in front of a staged, cleared out store shelf.

"News" stopped being about telling the truth a long time ago.

Yep, Sandy was no super storm, it just hit at the angle it needed to in order to pile up water on the Jersey Shore and lower Manhattan.

1950's hurricane cut Long Island in half

This.

We are well beyond ridiculous on all news fronts - politics, weather, entertainment, etc.

Have to keep people glued to the news, tv, app, website, etc. It's disgusting.

They were saying Covidcane this morning lol. Mix of a hurricane and COVID. Weather channel is nuts when it comes to trying to get people to watch.
