no he wasn't... he was from the city of Myra, which is located in present day Turkey... he most assuredly was not "white"
Saint Nicholas was pure as the driven snow. Described in print has having white hair and a long white beard. Where do you think they got the inspiration for the original Santa Claus character?
And before you make definitive statements, you need to know history. St Nicholas attended the First Nicaean Council in 325 AD. The great Turkish invasion didnt happen until 1060ish. Over 700 years after the white, Greek guy named Nicholas was dead

i fail to see how that correlates to his SKIN being white... he likely looked pretty similar to this:
or this:

the "inspiration" comes from the fact that he gave gifts to needy people, not because he was fat white man who wore a red suit

i'm quite aware of the history... but even knowing the history, it doesn't give any more credence to a Nicholas being "white"...

I think the point many are trying to make is that Santa wasn’t ever African or of African descent
Posted on 12/4/22 at 11:19 am to SPEEDY
Ha. Jesus was black too.
The egyptians were black too.
Any humans that were doing epic things and being more advanced and special than the rest of the ethnicities were all black skin too.
Cause da mos’high say in the biybuh bruh

Santa is a fricking fictional character, and has different iterations, depending on the location of the world you live...

nope... but he damn sure wasn't white either

i can see people getting aggrevated with claims of these people all of a sudden being "black", given they are actual people of history but a fictional character, yeah, that's retarded

I am so thankful that this month old thread has been revived to remind us all that some people get big mad about fictional characters' skin color.

nothing wrong with black santa
be more concerned when they try to get rid of santa entirely because its muh racist
it'll happen in the next 10 years.

Why speculate? The St. Nicholas Center (yes, one exists) did a reconstruction of his face from his skeletal remains. This is what he would have looked like. Not a Turkish guy with a white beard

These are the same folks that got legit outraged that a mermaid (something that doesn’t even exist) was being played by a black actress. What do you expect

nurse, have you gotten your 5th booster yet?
i heard it’s going to be a dark and deadly winter, again. are y’all still stacking up dead bodies behind the hospital?

people on the Anatolian Peninsula, as well as the Greek Isles didn't all of a sudden get olive colored skin in the last 1000 years bro...
As a matter of fact, in general, they did, bro. But continue to post pictures of Arabs and Kurds and Turks to make an asinine point. You’re ignorant of history.
I don’t care if anyone portrays Santa as black by the way, so your virtue signaling is nice and all, but no one gives a shite.

bro, imagine a turban on that image, and all of sudden he's a lot more "non-white" i can promise you...
at the end of the day, he wasn't as Eurasian as you'd like to believe he was... i'm not saying he was dark as frick, i'm just saying it's highly unlikely anyone would have thought he was "white", especially by today's standards of ethnicities...
at the end of the day, AGAIN, Santa is a FICTIONAL character, not a biographical interpretation, so it stands to reason that he is no more FACTUALLY white than he is FACTUALLY black, or FACTUALLY asian, etc... just as he was created out of an imagination, people should be able to use their imagination to portray and display the FICTIONAL character that Santa is...

nah, they didn't, but if you'd like to provide facts and/or evidence to prove your claim, i'd love to see it... and don't just take my word for it

oh, you mean people from around that part of the world that Nicholas came from? i guess i could use stock photos of Scandinavian people, since thats apparently the vision of Nick you have in mind, but that wouldn't be accurate, now would it?

i don't think i'm any more or less educated than you are...

given you've responded to my posts twice now, dunno, but, it would seem like you DO give a shite

No crap - but the historical Santa (St Nicholas of Myra) and the traditional Santa (kraut guy with blue eyes) - is what people are arguing with you about - black Santa is new

seems like a touch of cultural appropriation to me.
i think the icicle lights are trashy.
i prefer an angel over a star on my Christmas tree.
we wrap our presents and don’t just set them out.
eggnog is a mixer and anyone who drinks it without liquor is a psychopath.
and Santa is white. Your Santa can be whatever you want it to be. Black, Chinese, Indian, and/or LBTQXYZLMNOP+. If that makes me a racist bigot, i’m fine with that, but according to my tradition, Santa is white.

historical Santa
there is no historical Santa... there is a real-life human being, who's penchant for gift giving provides the basis for the character we know as Santa, but the character we know as Santa was NEVER meant to be a physical representation, at all, of St. Nicholas of Myra...
the ONLY inspiration for Santa, derived from Nicholas, is the gift giving, not physical features... to claim otherwise is incorrect and contrived, conflating the issue among illogical lines...
