So, my kiddos (who are watch freaks) convinced me to drive down to the Galleria for the drop of this abomination. Got there by 8:00am before opening……400+ Lined up on the street with tents and everything.

We kept going and grabbed a nice breakfast.

Anybody else familiar with the nonsense that’s going down?

They’re buying them up for resale. I think they’re hideous.

Now that everyone is making "homages" and not counterfeits the big names have to cash in on too.

I have an Alaska Project being held for me. Honestly, it is a huge release for Swatch. What I am calling an Alaska Project technically is called Mission to Mars in the MoonSwatch release.

Ok. They’re educating me.

I saw the pics and honestly a few aren’t bad for a Swatch.

I have a seamaster planet ocean but I’m ok with it.

Guess we’ll wait until later for easier access.

ETA: kids are in awe that you have the Alaska Project waiting for you……I gave them your pedigree;)

Eta2: Ok, still that’s the one they’re dialed in on.

The MoonSwatch release (11 total colorways) is a Swatch release that motivates Swatch collectors as well as more traditional watch enthusiasts the same way the Sistem51 did but it is way bigger. For example, an original Omega Alaska Project will run you $25k now or you can pick up a fully authorized Swatch x Omega colab homage for the "low" price of $260 and they fit perfectly into the S(second)watch brand.

I’ll pay 10k for a watch before I stand in line.

They'll be available online in a few weeks. Anyone who stands in line or pays above retail for this watch is a dipshit. This isn't like Rolex struggling to keep up with demand, these are quartz movements in a plasticky case.

It depends on how many they make. Don’t underestimate the shoe/hype beast crowd. These are not “watch people” buying these.

Alright I want a GMT planet ocean But:

They put that stupid helium release valve on everything, even the GMT watches without a diving bezel. If it has a helium release valve I want to at least hypothetically be able to dive with it. One model has a GMT and dive bezel but it doesn't have a steel bracelet and if I pay that much for a watch I want a steel bracelet. I've about decided on a diver 300. I don't think it looks as good and it's not a master chronometer. But it has a dive function, GMT function and a chronograph, and it comes on a steel bracelet.

I got my 3861 Cal Sapphire Sandwich about two weeks ago, and I can say it has had no impact on me. Watches and collecting are supposed to be fun. For shits and giggles, I may pick up the Mission to Mars one down the line and pass it off to my fiancées little nephew for a gift at some point.

The 10 o'clock wart has become a spotting feature. While I won't say I like it I am ambivalent to it.

The most difficult thing for a watch nerd to do is find a watch that checks every box. That is one of the reasons the Submariner is so popular. For an everyday watch that is also a diver it is hard to find fault with the product itself and there really aren't any design features that turn people off in large numbers. The companies' baggage in some circles and the difficulty actually buying one is another subject.

They are not happy, besides it's not like Speedmasters are rare anyway.
