Did they at least slowly drag the CEO down the street in a yoke so the people could laugh and throw rotten fruit at him/her?

Or maybe he’ll invest it and be the next Billionaire. Why do you assume he’s going to blow thru it? He’s not the first kid to be given a ton of money nor is good money management is dependent on age

Liberal media outlets taking picture/videos out of context to fit their agenda. NO WAY! I wish he would have got every penny from his lawsuites. These outlets ruin peoples lives with no consequences . Wish More people would do the Same. We Have let a Few Blue states and media outlets in those states force their crap down our throats. THe last 4 years have been a disgrace on the media front.

With the amount this was shared by people thinking this kid was a white supremacist, I have no issue with what's happening. He and his family were harassed.
They tried to ruin a kids life because if a hat he was wearing. That's it.

More people should do this, journalists might have to start doing their jobs correctly if this was more common.

What? You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
This isn't some out of the public eye case. It is a direct attack on their credibility as journalists. And Sandmann isn't out there representing himself. He's not going to be cheaply bought off. This is a case where these companies would fight it if they actually had a case. But they don't, because they all very clearly fricked up big time. They are settling because the only other option was publicly getting taken to the woodshed

I didn't say he did.
You said we aren't sure he'll get a million total out of all of them. Don't back down now.

I'd love to know how much he's received.
I am betting he'll never have to work a day in his life if he doesn't want to.

You are being down voted but I doubt it was anything north of 750k. One of my friends was killed in a car cash fire in high school due to a faulty part in a mazda 3 and their family received 1.2 million or so. That is a wrongful death settlement, this is defamation. I know you guys hate the media but if this was anything else you would be shitting yourself about muh lawsuits. The companies should have paid but a 250 million dollar lawsuit for that is absurd. A lot of car deaths don't receive .1% of that.

You can't really gauge based on that. A lot depends on insurance, whether there are additional policies and excess coverage, etc.
Wrongful death isn't always the most valuable either, a lot depends on the law of a given jurisdiction. Here in Georgia, we have a massive negligent security issue being exploited by plaintiffs' attorneys right now.
Anyway, defamation can be devastating and it's often malicious/intentional/callous in a way that PI is not. These are some elite media institutions who violated almost everything they're supposed to stand for by railroading a kid because they've become hyperpoliticized cesspools.

Defamation.
Emotional pain and suffering.
My guess is WaPo paid him between $10-20M. The WaPo legal fees for the case would probably exceed $2M.
If they only offered $1M, might as well take your chances on a trial.

quote:Again, the rolling stone fake rape case is the closest comparison I'm aware of. There, they literally printed that 3 guys in a fraternity raped someone. Here, the WaPo is accused of doing much less. I'm sure you don't even know the specific allegations against WaPo.
This isn't some out of the public eye case. It is a direct attack on their credibility as journalists
Rolling Stone settled with 3 men for 1.6 million total.
Here, WaPo initially had the case thrown out on a motion to dismiss. The case against it was revived in a limited capacity after the complaint was amended.
WaPo wasn't over a barrel here and likely didn't settle for big dollars.

That didn't have near the exposure that this did. Not were the inaccuracies nearly as malicious and done so blatantly. These media companies knew the truth but went with the lie anyway.
