Huey shoved social security so far to the left that it's basically useless now. FDR knew Long was coming for the White House, he had to give a little more to the base.

What did Edwin Edwards do for the state other than steal our money?

Long actually did a lot that improved the state. Built bridges, roads, etc. He even improved the quality of education.
What state did not do this?
Huey was a tyrant.
He published his own newspaper and forced the state patrol to circulate it all over the state. He paved roads until they reached the land of someone that didn't vote for him and then he would skip that stretch of road. He leased state land mineral rights forever in his Win or Lose Corporation and then leased them to oil companies---the successors of that corporation still enrich his heirs. He had the "deduct box" and forced state employees to contribute cash to it. He wanted to tax at 100% all income above $100,000.
He was horrible. We should take his statue from the Capitol grounds TODAY and remove his remains TODAY.
No one should admire Huey---JBE does and really is envious of the power the man had.
EWE ran the white collar oil business out of the state with his change to oil taxes. He let trial lawyers run rampant and really destroyed private workers comp in the state. He is very smart and would certainly be open to changing things if he was in power today but the man was out for his friends and ultimately himself. If one could, for example, convince EWE that we should end the state income tax he would figure out a way to do it. He knew where every cent in the state budget was. He just had wrong ideas about government.

Long for impact
Edwards for embarrassment

If the one guy had lived long enough he might've went to prison, too, who knows?

Edwin was taller than Huey, but the Kingfish outweighed EWE by a good 30 lbs.

I understand this, but if you factor in the times in which they were governors, like everyone else, they were men of their time.
But I think Huey Long's pros outweighs EWE. And if we need a tie breaker.. EWE went to jail..
Either way, you sound like a EWE loyalist.

The State will never know just much damage EWE did to the State's image or how much money he & his cronies stole. If there was a State dime involved in anything, EWE stole at least half of it. His deal with Texaco, on "behalf" of the State, was probably his biggest one time haul. During his 4 yrs out of office, the State was auditing Texaco's oil royalty payments to the State. EWE came back to office, killed the audit & the State settled the dispute for nickles on the dollar. The State had them by the balls & would have made millions in court. No one will ever know how much cash EWE made off with, but his 6,000 acre ranch in Texas had a 6' high brick fence built around it. Courtesy of Texaco. Long was definitely corrupt but EWE was a pro at stealing State and /or its peoples' money. He raped the "poor" that he always professed to represent.

By the time it’s said and done JBE will bigger than both, but it won’t be for positive reasons it will
Be for single handedly ruining the entire economy of Louisiana. He will go down in the history books.

Long wasn't going to prison. Even if he would have been charged, the fix would have been in. Ya boy was buddies with the likes of Frank Costello in NYC (he agreed to bring the slot machines that Mayor LaGuardia was dumping into the Atlantic in NYC down to Louisiana) and obviously had the support of any organized criminals in La (at least for a majority of the time prior to his death). Which is not even mentioning any real political allies.

I am no fan of EWE. I am simply comparing the two men.
The point is that EWE did not have the dictatorial power Long had and was not as out and out corrupt as Long.
Anybody that admires Long is not a freedom loving person. He was a tyrant. Castro and Maduro and Stalin used his same populist policies to assume power and amass wealth.
He was not simply a man of his time. He was unique in power and corruption for a governor of the times.
