Was Freshman High School hazing a real thing at your High School like they show in movies?

Movies like Dazed & Confused had rampant Freshman hazing/initiation themes.
Was this a real thing where you attended school ?
It wasn't where I attended High School.
I'm guessing this stuff must go on in some parts of they country for it to be so rampant in movies, but I've never known anyone that experienced it at their school.

The FFA boys had a day of pretty severe hazing that the Ag teachers attended. That ended the year before I started high school so I missed it

They picked us up at 6am (2 of my sisters hotter friends 
) and brought us to the grocery store and made us buy embarrassing shite like tampons (one girl had to buy vaseline and a long big arse cucumber) did the whole carwash thing then we went to a pool party and got fricked up on natty light

I got my arse licked and lunch money taken as a freshman at Many High School.
I was new to the town and undersized for my age. It was a rough year.

When we were freshman we had ‘big sisters’ that were seniors - they’d take us out and we’d have to sing the fight song like in the middle of lakeside mall or something
When I was the big sister we took our ‘little sisters’ to laser tag
we did make them sing the fight song everytime they lost

My high school was 8-12, so the “Sub-Freshman” got some verbal hazing at least, being sub-human and all.

No hazing but the rest of that movie was pretty much spot on.. I remember first time I saw it I thought who was following me around.. the various groups …check..the bowling alley or pool hall…check … the party in the woods ( we always went with a big bonfire …. beers etc under the bridge at the edge of town… clothes .. yup we looked goofy..
Individual responsibility… no politics.. cops corrected things but also let things be a learning experience…

My 9th grade had a completely separate campus and name from high school and also from junior high/middle school.
