Walking around with a stupid mask under your nose, absent ANY mandate to wear a mask

Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me?
I get the idea, where there's some sort of requirement to wear the stupid masks and you're just trying your best to comply with the uselessness of it all.
I also sort of (but not really) get the idea that even absent any requirement or mandate to wear them, YOU think the masks work, so you are going to do so (and presumably wear them properly).
I just can't wrap my head around still wearing one, and wearing it in this stupid under-the-nose fashion - yet I inexplicitly still see people constantly doing this.
What's going on here?

How about the people that wear medical masks sideways with one strap around their head rather than both around their ears

I cant imagine getting triggered enough by some imbecile wearing a mask that I’d let it bother me at all, much less start a thread about it .

I recently went skiing and my nose and lips look like I have leprosy. I’ll probably wear a mask when I’m out and about for the next week or so.

If they were outside not around anybody maybe they had it on because they were heading inside around people and wanted to be able to breathe for a few before they did, and just had it on for convenience rather than taking it off.
I dunno, also people do dumb things. I haven’t worn one in forever because I can’t breathe in them and they are super uncomfortable. I’ve had both my vaccine shots and was supposed to get my booster but a meeting came in the way of when I had it scheduled so I missed that and never rescheduled, but I figure I’m young enough that I’ll be ok.

No longer a requirement at my job but I still wear one. I can hide a big ole dip of Copenhagen under it all day.
