"I can’t believe it was him," Christopher Darnell Jones Sr. told WWBT. "I still can’t believe it now."

"He got on the football team at Petersburg High School he excelled at that," the suspect’s father said, speaking of the younger Jones. "He excelled at everything. He was everyone’s friend, everybody loved Chris, and he had a movie star smile he would flash."

Jones Sr., however, did say he noticed his son "was really paranoid" when they last spoke.

That's gotta be tough on the parents.

I can’t imagine having to deal with a child that does something like this, especially if it honestly comes out of nowhere (not saying this one did or didn’t, but still).

Here we go, already laying the groundwork to blame CTE.

Clearly mentally ill. What a tragedy. 3 young men cut down just as they were entering adulthood

The signs were there. Someone had to have seen them

However, I can’t blame the parents on this

Dude snapped and maybe flew under the radar and no one raised the red flag.

I’ve said it before and ill say it again, Mental Illness is a real and needs to be dealt with in this country

CTE doesn’t cause paranoia.

Sounds like it could have been a schizophrenic episode. It’s not uncommon for someone his age to have their first psychotic episode and it can be very severe.

That’s total speculation but if he was exhibiting paranoid delusions it could explain it.

It’s not necessarily something that can be seen or prevented always.

A paranoid schizophrenic episode can happen out of the blue or be triggered by drugs in young males.

Praying for the families of the victims and the killer’s parents.

No doubt. But many on the left will blame guns and oppression. Many on the right will make jokes about black lives mattering. Our system is held hostage by people who are more interested in scoring a quick win than actually solving problems

Here we go, typical OT idiot response.

At no point did I even consider he is blaming CTE. With that said, what if he actually has CTE? Isn't everyone different when it comes to that? In other words, someone can take a lot of hits in the head and not develop it and for some it can a few decent hits.

I could be wrong, I thought I read that at one point. I am curious as to why he only played 1 year.

He was in National Honor Society and Key Club president in high school. I’m sure his parents are shocked.

I am sure they are, but I am replying to the jackass who said it looks like the family is already trying to blame it on CTE

At least he’s given you a little reprieve from your duties tonight

As someone who works in the mental health industry this story just sucks man. Its difficult to sympathize with someone who would do this but there are many great people whose mental condition can turn them into complete monsters out of nowhere. The worst part about it is that he took 3 innocent lives. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if he shows any remorse or understanding of what he did.

His parents weren't really as involved as the news and they themselves are portraying. Kid bounced all through the central region of VA during his formative and HS years. Most not with his parents. It's all a narrative to blame it on bullying with no real tangible evidence of said bullying just yet. Who are we supposed to mourn, the supposed bullies, the kid supposedly bullied or just call it an all around tragedy with no bad guys? Can't have it all ways yet that's what we have at the moment at least locally.

How is that clear? A fellow students t on the bus said "Chris got up and pushed Lavel," Lynch said. "And then after he pushed him, he was like, 'You guys are always messing with me.' Said something weird like that, but it was very bizarre because they didn't talk to him the whole trip."

Is every Black male that shoots other Black males for "disrespect" mentally ill?

When I read that he was "bullied" it seemed to simple of a reason. He played football for a year. Did they "bully" him as in the typical shite that upperclassmen will do to freshman. I am sure it can happen, but just the idea of someone who is good enough to play an aggressive game at a P5 school doesn't seem like someone who would get bullied.

At one of the worst high schools in the nation according to US News and WR rankings by all the metrics they use. Why was he still in U VA if he was off the team for a couple of years?
