Uruguay

Has anybody ever traveled/lived in/knew somebody who lived in Uruguay?

My grandfather is a libertarian type and I remember him telling me about this country a few years ago. Basically back in the day it was like the Switzerland of Latin America. Economically free, socially free, doesn’t intervene in foreign affairs.

He says it is basically like a quarter or third the size of Texas with only 3 million people and almost half of those people live in the capitol. The rest is basically ranch land similar to Texas. It is also on the coast and the people are very laid back and chill. It is not corrupt or dangerous. We even have somebody in our family (maybe one of his uncles) that moved there when either FDR or LBJ implemented some socialist policies (I think it was FDR?)

It sounds like a utopia to be honest. I am sure things have changed but it can’t be worse than america can it?

Not really but I would be willing to learn. I already live in a mostly Hispanic part of America so i could easily pick it up a bit before I moved. The problem is the Spanish they speak is different from Mexico Spanish, which is different from Spain Spanish and all the other versions.

This is all just stuff my grandfather told me off the top of his head. Seems like he has researched it a bit

This vibrant country offers a stable economy, mild climate, safe drinking water, affordable healthcare, beautiful beaches, minimal taxes, and little crime. While Uruguay isn't the cheapest South American country, expenses do tend to be quite a bit less than what you would see living in the United States.

Uruguay is probably one of the easiest countries in the world to immigrate to and obtain residency. You need a clean criminal record and be able to prove a monthly income of around 1500 USD per person.
