Well that is terrible news. I'm so sorry to hear this. I wish the outcome was so very different. God bless you for doing the right thing to even rescue them in the first place. My day is off to a crap start.

Test results are in. All have parvo.
Two won’t be able to be saved and will need to be put down. 50/50 on one of them.

So how many ended up able to be rescued including those with parvo that the adoptive peeps wanted to do what they could??

I'm assuming YES.

Skeet will they retest your pups at some point or is there no need to?? I know nothing and am wondering about false negatives.

You're a really good person.

He rescued those pups 3 days ago ... if it was me in his shoes, I'd be bawling my eyes out. I love pets but I can't deal with the death which is of course part of it.
A cat adopted US about 7 years ago and he's been sick and almost died -- we can't have a dog due to the cat AND we're really not home enough to do justice for any pup/dog.
Had this cat not shown up and my daughter "tamed" him and got super attached really quick, idk that I'd have ever had another.

quote:The test won’t show positive unless they’re showing symptoms. My vet wouldn’t even test the one I picked up yet. I was a little worried yesterday because she had a little diarrhea but she shat out a bunch of worms and has been doing good since. A lot more active and no more diarrhea. Plus the diarrhea didn’t smell too bad. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for being such a good human and adopting one ... and Skeet and whomever else took a chance. Keep the board updated??? I'm seriously sad for the OP and the pups that had to be put down. Like I feel so stupid but oh well.
(edit: would the dewormer that I'm sure they gave her cause that?? I imagine so but idk squat.)

I had a litter of 9, the person I bought the house from had dogs as well but didn't tell me about the Parvo until I called him. I saved 3 with Pedialyte and potted meat in a big syringe. One was never right and didn't live very long. The other two were working cattle dogs and both lived close to 15 years. We outside the whole time. I worked up the road so for three days I feed them every hour. I believe the dehydration is the worst. I kept the place clean and got a bunch of cheap towels that I burned and some boxes for them to stay in. After I cleaned everything with bleach and burned what I could. I had a few other dogs and gave them the shots myself. Never had another issue. It is very sad to see them suffer and then you wake up the next day and another is down. Tough to do, but the two I saved I liked almost more than my kids.

Watch for any sign of watery diarrhea
Also, you will know with the smell
To the OP, you are an awesome person for picking them up & trying to find them homes. As awful as it is that they are sick, you gave them a chance & a home if only for a few days.

Man, I'm so sorry to hear that the puppies are sick. Just know that you did an incredible job here and went way beyond the call of duty. Many thanks for giving a shite about those dogs.

I'm so sorry you had to go through letting those pups go, but you're a man of men for doing all of this. You've worked your tail off to save these pups and find them good homes, plus giving them a good home for the time they've been with you.
How does one clean up the area such that your own dog doesn't get parvo?

Lots and lots and lots of bleach.
The shelter still won’t foster the one we took back so we have to try to keep her alive without our lab getting sick. No clue how we’re going to do that.
Our lab may have to live somewhere else for the next couple of weeks

We’re any of the pups showing symptoms of Parvo before you got them tested?
Posted on 11/8/17 at 11:32 am to GeauxxxTigers23
Yes. In 2 of them it was pretty obvious

I remember he mentioned that to love them or not as playful and on the lethargic side. I don't know if that's a symptom or not but they weren't eating much either if I remember correctly
