Update: HempHead's Nephew Edition

Last year, around July or so, I came to you kind folks with the trials and tribulations that my brother, his wife, and their son were going through. He had developed a fluid mass on his lung in utero, and his chances for survival weren't exactly rosy.
Thanks to the staff at Texas Children's Hospital, and the support of family, friends, and the good folks of tOT, my little nephew is in almost perfect health. He has gone from being on ECMO, to ventilators, to continuous oxygen support, and now to very limited oxygen supplements. Nowadays, he can make it well over a day without any kind of outside treatment.
I want, once again, to thank you all for your prayers, support, and financial contribution to his success. I'll try to supply some pictures of the round mound of cuteness soon.

Cheers to the round mound of cuteness. May that boy live a full and normal life.

Glad to hear, having a baby is hard enough without health factors to consider. It takes real strength from your brother & SIL to get through something like that. Continued prayers for your nephew.

Whenever I see him on houseparty, he is a bouncing ball of footwork and rhythm. Uncle Hemp is going to buy him a drum set as soon as he can work the pedals, if nothing else but to piss off mom and dad

Glad to hear. I followed his journey for a while through the go fund me emails. Haven’t gotten one in a while and assumed the best.
Again, glad to hear it.
Again, glad to hear it.

It's great to hear that that little feller is coming around. It will be cool when he can start building his cardio to play a little ball.

That is awesome man. Always great to hear success stories like this. I bet the little dude grows up to be one hell of a force.

His pop managed to relocate and transition to a completely new sector. Mama will stay at home for some while. Even has 3/4 of his grandparents moving to look after him. Not a shabby childhood, I would think.

Sounds like the stars are aligning to me. That kid is going to benefit greatly from so much love, even if he never remembers it.

Thanks Hemp.
My youngest 2 were premies. They were boy/girl twins and weighed about 3 1/2 pounds. The boy had under developed lungs and had extra oxygen. They both were NICU. My daughter had a seizure at a week old and we almost lost her. She lost all of her eloctrolites and was lifeless and gray/ green. They adjusted her IV fluids and she started responding. My wife was there. About 5 am is when it started. The nurse called me at home getting ready for work. My wife was a wreck at the time and couldn’t get 2 words out. I dropped everything and drove to S’port about an hour away. She was doing better by the time I got there. She was green around the lips anymore. But d She was still gray.
She was still lifeless a with tubes and wires sticking out all over her body and completely unclothed in an incubator. She kept coming around but later that day they discovered a blood clot at the base of her brain. They monitored her for several days and measured her head daily for swelling. On the 4-5th day they decided to put a shunt in the next day. But her head quit swelling and they postponed it. Went down every day so the shunt wasn’t needed. We did discover that she had cerebral palsy though, but it was very mild. She wore constructive shoes and braces but that was about the extent of it. She developed as close to normal as she could.
Zoom ahead 17 years and she and her brother are graduating this year. She is first in her class and has a full ride to Tech. She scored a 30 on her ACT and has a 4.5 GPA. My son is graduating as well and is the picture of health. He’s going to trade school and taking industrial maintenance and sure he’ll do great. He’s just not a school guy.
Long story, but the sky is the limit for the little man. Just don’t underestimate the will power of kids. They are strong but damn lucky to have a caring family like y’all.
