I’m a bit out of the loop. What is with the posts about CG dropping a radio to survivors on deck? Haven’t heard anything like that on the local news.

I got that from one of the links in this thread - not sure if Nola.com, but I think so.

How would you propose they do that? The part sticking out of the water is a water tight void....

If they happen to open any other water tight access holes, they would risk the air that may or may not be in the air pockets to release.

5-6 seas is not nasty conditions for divers

I would think the coast guard could attempt to send people in for a closer look than what they’ve done so far. Maybe they’re being overly cautious with the structure stability unknown but time is not on these men’s side now.

You think they can just pull up to the wrecked vessel and tie up and let the divers just jump in the water?

This whole situation is mind boggling and disappointing. IMO the CG is really letting a lot of people down. Divers are 100% used to diving at night and/or no vis.

Theres got to be more to the story than what they are saying...

I’m well aware as I’ve been in charge of sat dive operations on pipelines back in the day. I think the points are valid that the coast guard is either not providing more information that they have or there is something else going on with the recovery. Frustrating to say the least although maybe the media interviews with family distort some of what’s gone on.

The seas and weather have been treacherous since Tuesday. Way more than 5-6 seas.

SEACOR contracted Donjon Marine from the Northeast Coast. It takes time to mob 10 divers and their equipment

They were finally able to get the weather window they needed to get the divers in the water this afternoon. I would imagine they will dive around the clock from here on out looking for bodies and survivors.

I heard it would take about 4 (I assume at least decent) days to clear the ship, which would be enough - except their 4-day clock started ticking Tuesday night. And it is obviously not a zero risk operation for the divers or other rescue personnel, especially in conditions since the capsizing.

May God bless those men (the crew, the divers, the CG and any volunteers out there).

Divers are in the water as we speak. What are you talking about?

You want the US Navy to send in SEALs?

Interesting that word of men trapped just came out today. I figured they would have been on this from jump.

Pretty sure that word was release by a cousin of a family member on social media and the other media stations ran with it.

Unless I missed something, did the USCG or SEACOR officially say that?

Been in the woods all day. Just sifting through thread and news. Is there any significant news except that SAR is ongoing .

I looked at the radar this AM and it looked the coast was infested with squalls.

Still hoping.

All people want to see is a little apparent effort to save what could be 12 men trapped inside that hull. When Macondo blew out, ROVs were working in 5,000 ft. of water to manipulate the BOP on the seabed.

Now, more than ten years after Macondo, 10 miles from Fourchon in 50 ft. of water, the best available technology is apparently the Coast Guard throwing hammers at the hull and scuba divers diving off the back of a fast response boat.

America put a man on the moon 50 years ago. How can we not do better than this?

A big part of why the search and rescue ops are taking longer than we'd all like.

Divers and boat were mobed and ready to go by 1200-200 PM yesterday. USCG would let them go.

I've been pretty parallel to your opinions through this forum I think...

But to think that this is the best we can do is just ridiculous. These are lives at stake with potentially limited oxygen/time. The SEALS are a bit extreme, I'll admit but cmon. There got to be some guys in the CG that have just been waiting for this moment... step up.

What do you suggest they do? Hook a derreck barge up and and just yank it out the water and let it hang above the water line until all the water and bodies drain out?

Or drag it over pipelines onto Grand Isle beach?

No. I'm not here to be unreasonable. I know those are not options. But divers working through the night - simple offshore task.. No matter which way you cut it.

I know for a fact there was a boat with divers heading out this morning and they turned around because it was too rough.
