I can see why that may cause a delay.

BATON ROUGE - A portion of the University Lakes Project has hit an unexpected snag after it didn't receive any bids from contractors for the May Street bridge portion of the plan.

Project manager Mark Goodson says they received a "variety of reasons why contractors ultimately decided not to submit a bid," but did not elaborate in an email with WBRZ.

Goodson says over 30 contractors downloaded the bid package when it was advertised.

While the news isn't what the project was hoping for, Goodson says it will delay construction but hopefully not for long.

Of course it’s gonna take longer. And probably over budget too.

The lakes project has turned into an absolute disaster. Have y’all seen the size of the bird sanctuary? It looks like it has quadrupled in size. At the rate they’re going, there won’t be much of a lake left.

It may very well never be ready in time

Come on man. The birds need a place to land.
Let the pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers run in the street.

This is just the beginning. They plan to pile more dredge material to extend the banks and then add marsh grass 20-30 feet into the water in many places. It’s all in the plan published on the website but the illustrations minimize these aspects.

Yep. People are going to be outraged when they realize what’s being done.

this thing has disaster written all over it and my guess is it ends up in the same condition it was in before they started the project

I think so too — especially when they see what an unmanageable mess the marsh grass becomes.

No bids at all? Hell, I’d think some contractors would at least throw a FU number out there

When allegedly 30 contractors downloaded the bid package and NONE of them enter a bid it is a YOU problem...not them.

On a side note, how many other moderately sized cities can f-up digging a hole?

I run about 3-4 times a week. The Lakes are a shite show right now. Let's hope they get it done soon. I jump over about 20 dead turtles every time I'm out there.

CSRS and Stantec, the designers and program managers, have been over their heads from the beginning. The number of unintelligent things done from their goofy little circle island over by Brian Kelly's house that has already sank to the screwball contractors from up north who have no idea what they are doing trying to dredge and remove debris...but it all comes back to how you design and write the specs. They wrote the plans and specs that allowed these goofs the room to win and fail to construct at any reasonable pace or for any reasonable budget, they wrote the plans and specs this time around where, like others have said, nobody even wanted to throw out an FU number. Any one looking to do in-the-wet construction in LA should pay attention to the failures present here, but hey, Stantec is also under fire for all the corrosion at the New Orleans outfall pumps in Lakeview and Gentilly and it hasnt seemed to have dissuaded others from hiring them over and over.
