And God said: “Next to the stage: Chantal!”
And so it was.
And so it was.

This thing formed quick. We were on the beach yesterday and the wind was whipping but I wasn’t expecting a tropical storm to come out of it.

It gets a name when the sustained winds reach 39 mph. Strictly objective.
You might have this mixed up with winter storm names which are partially based on expectations and are a clickbait marketing gimmick for the Weather Channel.

It is a tropical system, but it probably could have remained a tropical depression rather than becoming a named storm since it won’t be around that long.

Named storms (summer & winter) trigger higher deductibles.

Mvt N @ 1 mph. So it's essentially parked right over the Gulf Stream!
All bets are off with this storm now

If it isn't strong enough to become a tropical storm, but affects a major TV market (New Joisey (sic)) it gets to have its own designation:
Super Storm Sandy.

Odd statement and a shitty comparison for a storm that was a major hurricane and the largest Atlantic hurricane on record at the time, but I guess it works.

Sandy had sustained winds of 80 mph when it hit land in NJ. It was pretty strong aboot 500 miles away.

Wow. We’ve going to Charleston and Savannah next weekend. If this storm was a little stronger, a little later, and a little further south….
Makes you think.
