The couple have been charged in Federal court.... Not in Tangi.... Do you understand what I'm saying?

They can't? Where did you come up with this postulation?

I was gonna go to Lake Travis to buy a boat.
Guy wanted cash, about $58K.
No way I'd drive from LA to TX with that much cash.
I have a gun(s) so I wasn't worried about common thieves.
I knew if the cops stopped me there was a good chance it would be gone, especially in Louisiana.

Ah ha. Now we are getting somewhere. I never said they could prove it. I do think, as many others have pointed out, that the whole story has not been told to the media.
If the criminal couple turn out to be innocent, they should get the money back.
My opinion is that the money was not from a legitimate source. The feds will be involved with so much on the line and they'll figure out what's going on.
This is probably a bad example for cop haters to latch onto IMO. This is similar to the Michael Brown case to me.
Pick another case. There were a couple of examples earlier in this thread.

You lost me when you mentioned Michael Brown
the 2 stories do no correlate to one another. We're talking about wrongful search and seizure in a moving vehicle and how the dogs are inaccurate over half of the time. So this IS a good example for people to latch onto what is right and wrong about what cops do for search and seizure.
Try again

I don't know what my dad would've done. He was a banker and thought nothing of dragging a hundred thousand dollars around in the back seat of a piece of junk car. I can bet this though if the cops would've ever seized it they would've been giving it back. He wouldn't have rested till he got it back

I disagree, but I see the point you are making.
This got attention b/c of the amount, I get that.
The point is that cops pull this crap routinely. It is much worse if you are a minority or of a different ethnic background.
A lot of border (state) police departments rely on this method for funding, it is SOP. The "war on drugs" has got nothing to do with it.
Honestly, I hope the victims in this case walk. I really don't care where the money came from. It smells and looks like an illegal stop and seizure.
The bigger picture is that our rights are being trampled on daily and we are allowing it to happen.

Do you think you have all the evidence from that short article written by some podunk newspaper/tv station or whatever it was?

No, I never claimed to. Do you?
Posted on 5/28/15 at 8:45 am to roadGator
why would the police not provide any substantial evidence to the press?
I get not giving out specific details, but not giving out any type of details on the evidence seems kinda stupid, no?

If there wasn't $800k of unexplained cash, I'd agree
what is your limit of "acceptable" cash that a person can carry before the police are justified in stealing it?

he is not going to answer that because according to him, its not relevant
trust me, I've asked him that several times

another civil forfeiture thread?
yeah, that shite's legal.... for whatever in the frick reason....
it's kinda like ADMIRALTY, a prize
pretty much presumed drug money, will have to prove it is not, to get it back.
I thought the feds just repealed that a short time back, but don't recall details [ the devil is in the details ]

All I can turn up on web searches is WBRZ reporting that the couple was not arrested. I am a man of my word, so I will shift my opinion to this seizure stinking. Regardless of my belief that this money is likely dirty, if there truly was nothing other than speeding to cite them for, then I don't like it.
I of course reserve the right to changing my opinion if other facts come out.
