Toyota 4Runner Problem - Entune App Connection and Pairing
Posted on 3/3/21 at 9:08 am

Do any of you with a 2020 or 2021 4Runner use the Entune app?
We just got a TRD OR Premium, and when I try to remote connect to the car via the Entune app, I can't even pair it. I get an error on the app during pairing, then again on the car when trying to pair from inside the car when using the Remote Connect application on the head unit.
Love the truck, but after 300 miles or so, we are finding some questionable cost cutting decisions made by Toyota that weren’t apparent on the test drive. No automatic headlights, no single touch lane change signal, and weird Entune compatibility.

Did you go through the remote connect authorization? You may have to call toyota

Glad to see Toyota’s infotainment stuff is still complete arse

Had a 2013 that I was never able to get to pair through the app. Entune is fricking garbage

I have a 2020 4runner and have never even heard of entune

Entune remote pairing that allows you to unlock doors, start the car, etc. with your phone from a distance is on every Toyota across the board EXCEPT the 4Runner and Land Cruiser.
That app on your 4Runner's screen is just for decoration.

That sucks. My 2005 4Runner has automatic headlights.

But that sumbitch will ride like a goat for 300,000 miles!

My 2002 Trailblazer had automatic headlights, and it was the stripped down model.
I love the 4Runner. We waited a while to get the color and trim package that I wanted. But these are little things that were not apparent in the test drive and not exactly advertised by Toyota .

It's a Toyota, so don't expect much from the infotainment, rather expect the vehicle to last forever. Entune is hot garbage. It's borderline useless in my Tacoma.

Have the finally put the adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist that basically every other Toyota has had standard for at least 3 years into the 4Runner yet?

So the app tile that's front and center on my infotainment screen doesn’t actually work?
Edit: I found some reddit posts that point out the same thing. The app is there but it's not functional on the Land Cruiser or 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium. It might be compatible with the Limited trim level, but that's not clear based on the Reddit thread.
WTF Toyota?! Why have the application there at all if it doesn't work? This is like having a switch in the car that turns on a feature that they neglect to include. False advertising.

I do have adaptive cruise. Works well.

Toyota and Lexus are great. What they sell you works better than anyone else in the industry generally.
But their tech isn’t just outdated, in many cases it’s antiquated.
The Lexus GX is a great vehicle, but the interior looks like a 4Runner Limited from at least 10 years ago and costs close to 60k. Even their sales people would admit if pressed that Toyota coasts on certain vehicles.

I have a 2020 tundra and that Entune stuff is absolute garbage

Enjoy the shitty ride, but high reliability and resale!

Maybe I'm not missing out on much then. I saw the application tile there on the ones I sat in and test drove before I bought it. I assumed it was functional.

Frickin' Toyota couldn't even be bothered with a panel of shame for this?

Not a fan of this option. Nothing like slowing to 40 on I10 when an 18 wheeler merges on 800’ in front of me

Maybe check all the other switches and try out the four wheel drive. Maybe they forgot to include other stuff in your build.
