Why am I seeing such a difference in the low temps between BR and NOLA for Christmas?

Teedy will not be bullied by the cold weather.

Weatherundergournd extended outlook. BR 25 and snow showers 12/24, NOLA 38 and rain.

I know in the past there has been a moisture or temperature line that has dictated everything.

Meteorologist Nick Mikulas
Due to the extended period of rainfall that should last into Wednesday, NWS has issued a flood watch for Rapides, Avoyelles, Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parish in Central Louisiana for 1-4 inches of rain with isolated higher totals. This will go along with the severe threat we've already talked about for days. I haven't noticed any major changes in timing or strength of the system for tomorrow into Wednesday, but will update after another round of models this evening.

SIBERIAN EXPRESS

I remember the first time hearing this expression- WWL's Dave Barnes for sure; maybe 1982.

So, if Siberian express happens, that’s the coldest possible outcome for the Deep South?

When’s the last time we go cold air pumped down from the NW territories rather than north central Canada straight above?

This was 1983 in North AL, without any significant snow to speak of on the ground:

Latest GFS doesn't show 18" of snow and ice and temps are much more believable. Still has us very much within the cold air mass, but less precip. Much less.

This will definitely be the longest I've ever anticipated every 6hr model run...

It will tease us with extreme cold and a foot of snow then reality will be 31 degrees and freezing rain. light flurries if we are lucky

While I would love a foot of snow and a real white Christmas, all the other things make me want this to hold off until the day after Christmas. Everything down here will shut down. Families won’t be able to get together, etc.

Understood, but there is no way the Northshore is getting over 10 inches of snow.

You sure? I realize it is a safe bet because the odds are so low but no one expected 6-8 inches in 2008. Started snowing at 5:15am here in Ponchatoula and didn't stop till some time after 1pm.
