TOPS question. And it’s a sad sad question.

If one were to be a recipient of the honors TOPS award yet had an unfortunate first semester, is TOPS gone forever? The unfortunate part of it is a 0.5 gpa with only 8 credit hours earned.
For those in the know, what are the options, if any?

You lose it for a semester and can earn it back.. at least that’s how it was when I was in college 15 years ago.
I never had a 0.5
But I don’t think the GPA itself matters as much as raising it to average out to where is needed.

Yes, but not because of the GPA. It's gone for good for not having enough credit hours. If your GPA is too low you just get put on probation. Not enough hours and you're SOL.

Not if you don't have enough credit hours. Would not be considered a "full time" student. I think the lack of hours is the bigger deal here vs 0.5 GPA.

I did the same. 1.0 my first semester. They put me on probation the next semester and i had to pay my way. Got good grades, plus 9 hours over the summer and got it back. I went 4.5 years and to my surprise they paid for my 9th semester, so I really didn’t lose out on anything.

I think you get academic probation and then lose it if you don’t get your gpa up next semester.

I missed the 8 hours part. Yeah you have to have 12 to be full time.

Back in 2008 I lost TOPS. I got my grades back up to par and managed to get it for 3 more years.

So a successful 16 credit hour Spring semester could potentially save the TOPS? That’s the part I’m unclear of.
