A self-proclaimed budget expert highlighted a Costco Wholesale return policy that allows customers to return items well past 90 days since their purchase.
To demonstrate, the finance influencer, who goes by the handle @bougiecheapskate on TikTok, acted out a scenario wherein she pretends to return a five-year-old coffee maker to Costco customer service in a video posted to her account on March 15.
“Hi Costco, my coffee maker isn’t working anymore,” she says as the customer.
“That coffee maker looks like it’s about five years old,” she responds as the employee.
“Yup. And I’d like to claim Costco’s 100% satisfaction guarantee,” she replies. “Since I’m no longer satisfied with this product, I’d like to return it so I can buy the newer model.”
Acting as the store employee again, the money saving expert says, “Makes sense! There are a few exceptions to that rule, but coffee makers are covered. I can help you get that return started.”
According to Costco’s return policy page, the retailer offers a “risk-free 100% satisfaction guarantee” refund on the merchandise they sell, with exceptions that include certain electronics, diamonds and cigarettes and alcohol.

I’m on the fence about this one. I think there are so many people abusing store policies; However, nothing pisses me off worse than something breaking less than a couple of years old and it’s out of warranty.

Costco makes plenty of money off of me to offset this dumb frick sheisting a couple bucks for a coffee maker

My brother bought a vacuum cleaner from Walmart years ago only to open the box and find an old used vacuum cleaner inside. I still laugh every time I think about that.

This is trashy and just a shitty thing to do. Except at Costco. frick Costco.

This has been going on at Walmart for decades, only thing holding you back from doing it is not being a trashy piece of shite. Hang on to every receipt you have for everything in your double wide and this worn out $15 frying pan can be your hill to die on!

That's Costco's choice.
They are free to change their policy any time.

I bought a brand new $800 lap top from Costco. Got it unboxed, plugged in, tried turning it on, nothing happened. I let the battery charge for a few hours, still wouldn't turn on. I brought it back to Costco, explained what happened, they switched it out for another one, and gave me a $25 gift card for my troubles. I was not expecting the gift card, it was a nice gesture on their part.

Pro Tip:
If there are no identifying serial numbers on the packaging, just buy another identical item and stick the old one back in it. And return it.
Obviously this will not work on TVs and expensive electronics since they have serial numbers printed on the packaging and those return policies are too short.

I would be ashamed to return a 5 year old coffeemaker even if it was allowed by the store's return policy.

People who steal from places like Costco have your same mentality.

My dad called LL Bean to try and buy a new hood for an old jacket he had. It was probably 20 years old. They told him they didn’t sell just the hood.
He asked how, he could get a new hood for this jacket?
They said just return the jacket for a new one with a hood. Say you were unsatisfied since the hood was lost.

Many years ago, I worked for Sears. It was mind-boggling the excuses people made to return items.
The example shown here is disgraceful but nowadays, honestly and good character have left the building.

Bed Bath and Beyond has fixed their policies but it used to be you could go buy something like a vacuum cleaner for $200, use a 20% off coupon so you only pay $160, then return the item saying it was a gift and they would give you $200 in store credit. We learned this on accident when returning wedding gifts where we got duplicate items.

Sorry you're poor and can't afford to replace a twenty dollar coffee pot
