I'm not sure these people really know what success and failure look like, and that's a huge problem:
Well, our species covers the entire surface of the planet from Antarctica to the North Pole. The vast majority of us get to live into adulthood and mate. We put a MAN on the Moon. No doubt, some feelings got hurt along the way, but the good news is that we've invented electron microscopes that can give us images of the nanoscale violin I'm playing in remembrance.

I can remember in the early 70's it was "let them choose through which dolls they chose: Barbie vs GI Joe". In the 80's it was let them choose through clothing, flowery/silky vs flannel/denim.
