Several of us said it would basically equate to a bad flu season in terms of numbers.

And we were spot fricking on.

There’s two groups who are wholeheartedly backing this hysteria and farce:
The first is much more sinister and malicious. They’re the OMB statists and globalists who hope for the destruction of America if it means their party and movement benefits. They were desperate at the beginning of the year knowing the Dems were going to nominate an imbecile and they would likely lose the House as well as delivering the White House to Trump again on a silver platter. They needed something - ANYTHING - to change their fortunes. As soon as there were reports of the Chinese Flu it was already orchestrated that this was somehow Trump’s fault. They need to cling to this as long as they can hoping to destroy American prosperity and pin it on Trump.

The second group is the useful idiots manipulated by the first group. A good percentage of these are hoping they get diagnosed with the Chinese Flu so they can run to Facebook and play the martyr. They need this farce to go on as long as possible so they can tell everyone about their harrowing experience surviving the worst pandemic in the history of mankind, ever.

The best posts in this thread are the chicken littles criticizing people who under shot the death count by thousands, while bending over backwards to defend the Imperial College experts who over shot by millions.

Just comical.

I’ll never understand how people think this is an acceptable justification for the actions that have been taken.

If you know the models you’re producing aren’t being created with a proper dataset, then you keep working to improve the models before publishing them.

Oh yea. And you do not completely shutdown the economy, put millions of people out of work, force the permanent closure of thousands of small businesses, tell people they can’t receive certain medical procedures, prevent people from seeing their families, and effectively force otherwise healthy people to quarantine themselves in their own homes because of these inadequate models.

Yet here we are.

The fact you have two DVs is a sad commentary on the intellect of the average American voter.

I've been seeing alot of this from the AA community. "the economy can come back, dead people can't"

I am going have to wager it has something to do with all of these gubment checks being distributed.

I know people join to avoid prison time, but you can get a check for getting sober? I didn't realize it had come to that. Last I heard, heroin and cheap-knock off heroin was the trendy addiction of choice these days. Do they checks for rehabbing too?

Or we could all just, you know, acknowledge that 95% of people had no real idea what was going on or what could happen and were just trying to make the best decisions they could in light of the uncertainty

I think there is a large group of people that had this thing pretty much nailed. More than 5%, at least on this board.

It was pretty obvious from the beginning there were a ton of people that merely carried the virus and would not see any sort of negative impact. When the data came in from the diamond princess and was essentially ignored, you basically were on your own to draw your own conclusions.

Was flattening the curve important and not a risk we should have taken? Not sure, it obviously helped and we accomplished, or at least got the result we were hoping for. But was this ever going to kill millions of people? No, and that was fairly easy to see.

Wait till the high food prices caused by the shut down comes in the summer and Fall. You just think you’ve heard some Karen’s squawk.

Well mortality rate changes as more testing is done. This being a new virus, it would be extremely difficult to predict even for experts.

Isn't that what this whole thing is based on? "Saving Lives"? There would be no point to a quarantine if the survival rate was 100%, right? So it's pretty fricking important to get right.

When "experts" say the virus has a morality rate of 3.5%, people panic. When it comes out that the disease actually only has a mortality rate of 0.5% or lower, everyone will realize what a waste all this has been.

The “experts” can’t predict or model something?
