This author is mad that Gary Vaynerchuk told 20 year olds they need to work for 10 years

To be successful
I think Gary V is full of hot air too like most salesman, con artist, motivational speakers etc, but that isn't the point.
She really goes on to tell people not to work so hard when young because you could get cancer at 25 and a bunch of other excuses.

And his advice to not expect instant success too; all great stuff But unfortunately Gary Vaynerchuk doesn’t stop there. No he decides to share his life advice on what it takes to be “successful” and this advice is so fricking hideously toxic I find it hard to express quite how angry and upset I am that over a million twenty-something-year-olds have listened to this crap and been made to feel bad about themselves as a result. Thousands of people have liked the video and commented, even people I know, saying things like:
“Biggest fricking reality check I got in my life!”
“fricking best thing I’ve ever seen on any social media feed ever.”
The reason this disturbs me so much is because Gary Vaynerchuk’s life advice is that to be “successful” you need to JUST work for the next 10 years.
As he says:
“I gave up my entire 20s, all of ‘em. Imagine not doing anything fun or going anywhere for the next 8 years, including Saturday and Sunday. That’s what I did form 22 to 30.”
He says he spent 15 hours a day working, thinking about his business all the time. He even goes onto say:
“You spent more downtime on not your career this weekend then I did in my entire 20s combined”
to the poor woman who is on the other end of his rant. Which culminates in this gem of:
“You need to…realise that if you put your head down and just work for the next 10 years, no glamour, no new fricking car, suitcase, jewelry, trip, event, no Coachella, no fricking new fricking sneakers. Like frickin’ work you will have it.”
AGGHHHHHHHHHHH Gary Vaynerchuk has single-handedly done more damage to the lives of twenty-something-year-olds that buy this crap in that 5 minutes than anyone else I’ve ever heard give life advice before*. So frick you Gary Vaynerchuk. Here’s the reality of why that advice is not just heinously toxic but also flat out wrong.

People die young.
I wish they didn’t, I really do, but it happens. People get diagnosed with terminal cancer age 25 or run over by busses or killed it freak accidents. IT frickING HAPPENS so what you actually do if you decide to spend your entire twenties just working is risk that being your actual life. ALL OF IT. What you spend your time doing everyday is your life. If you were to die tomorrow do you not want to have enjoyed your life until that point? What Gary is suggesting does not sound enjoyable in the slightest. In fact it sounds fricking horrible.

You mean to tell me that hard work pays off?
Posted on 12/11/20 at 8:41 am to stout
The harder you work, the luckier you get

both of their points are over the top, but they also both have some validity to their points

So...life is about balance? Agreed

The fact that Zoomers can’t write a complete paragraph with using all caps UGHHHHHHHHH, or “fricking” is what tells me they are going to have a hard first ten years.

I busted my butt with school and work in my 20s and 30s. Really started paying off in my 40s

I'm kind of torn. I think making work your sole pursuit is kind of sad.

Yeah, frick all that.
There's a happy medium between working 80+ hours per week and racking up credit card debt attending Coachella every year.
Find it.

People that talk like this instantly lose any credibility with me. I agree with his message but it just sounds like a 7th grader from a trailer park that thinks tossing in gratuitous cuss words every other word makes them cool or edgy.

Just another lost puppy that hasn’t yet figured out that the pain is the pleasure.

but they also both have some validity to their points

I heard Bawpaw gave up his 20’s to work and now is the proud owner of his son’s wife. Gotta relive those days lost I guess

He's more right than she is.
I also know a lot of women especially who worked and went back for their masters to work more only to find themselves empty in their mid 30s when their peers are married with kids and they sunk their lives into companies that used them up.
Someone needs to gut check the "get rich quick" make yourself a "BRAND" and sell it for millions mindset.

It does get old listening to billionaires, most of which started off with a trust fund or some serious connections, telling me constantly to just work every minute of my life and I’ll be a billionaire too
I’m not saying they never worked hard or that this is what this guy came from, but some schmuck in BR isn’t going to become a billionaire by working 365 days a year and never having a life outside of work

I mean the general point that people define "success" differently and the idea that you should give up all fun in your 20s is an absurd idea for the vast majority of people

Every motivational personality must have a "TED Talk "promo picture of themselves.
