Thinking about quitting my job Monday

Long story short, I'm in management for a small company.

This morning, I had three emails from the owner ranting and raving about projects that they said hadn't been finished (the projects actually had been and were pretty minor anyway). The owner tries to be uninvolved for the majority of a normal week then pops in and raises hell here and there without even knowing what's going on in the day to day operation of the company.

Also, has a bad habit of "getting into it" with people and then shucking the mess off on us (or if it's our internal staff, me) to clean up.

This has been kind of an ongoing thing, we've talked about it and things get better for awhile then it's the same thing again. After today, I'm just done with it.

I'm supposed to have a meeting with the owner Monday to "lay out a plan for staff accountability" but thinking about just quitting although I have nothing else lined up right now.

Sorry, just needed to vent

It is easier to find a job when you have a job.

Pretty much the only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger today, going to attempt to hold the course until I find something new

"lay out a plan for staff accountability" sounds like more shite is about to get dumped on you. Use any PTO to look for something else. Don't just quit.

It's baffling to me, you have to be an absolute moron to treat your people shitty with the labor market the way it is right now.

Especially in a small business where people aren't as easily replaceable

I don't know you at all but you should quit your job and probably go to costa rica for a few months

Been in communication and substation engineering since 1983. I’ve pretty much designed every Bellsouth, Motorola, GTE Mobilnet, Quest, Entergy, Southern Communications and several that didn’t survive the 90’s tech crash.

I designed the Entergy/Ampirical substations on piers. I’m currently working on a $1.8 million Entergy building. I’m fricking tired. The boss just chewed me out about progress this week. I have structural issues because it’s on piers. Short answer is quit…retire…whatever. The stress isn’t worth it.

Get something else lined up first. I say that for more than just the obvious reasons.
It doesn't matter if you have a 6 months unemployment fund, or whatever your version of a rainy day fund looks like, if you up and quit you give up a considerable amount of leverage for no other reason than you got the red arse and want to quit.
I don't know if you have people who rely on you, but even if you're single you owe it to yourself to maintain a level of control over your professional life.
You would almost certainly burn this bridge with your current employer.
Your future employer would see you as the type of person to quit without notice, because the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
Then you must ask yourself, as they say in Latin, Que Bono. How does this benefit you ? Regardless of your field, I can see it being harmful in a number of ways. Does what you stand to gain outweigh the potential harms ?
Besides, if you line up something else before you quit, you give yourself time to consider these and other heretofore unanswered questions, as well as time to cool off and make sure you're not making a rash decision in the heat of the moment.
Or you could just throw a temper tantrum and quit. If you go this route, make sure you make a huge scene. Bring up all you pent up resentments against your boss and coworkers.
If you go this route, get a GoPro and record it to share with the rest of us

And there’s a network of communication of federal buildings that’s EMP proof…I also designed them. It’s a grid of 4x4 copper mesh grounded to an external ground ring.

I keep waiting for someone to start a thread about firing their manager of their small business on Monday because they can’t keep up with small projects.

At a previous company we had someone similar. Every 3-4 weeks or so it was some type of fire alarm. I just started being more transparent and sending him updates.

Next fire alarm meeting as he raised points I was able to say you were aware of this 2 weeks ago, why are you just now bringing it up after it has been dealt with?

This kind of stuff is usually caused by someone not wanting to be involved in day to day but they want an opportunity to let everyone know they know what is going on…. Most times they really don’t. Just flip it around and cause them to work or make them more accountable between tantrums. He will probably shut the frick up.
