No biggie. Just 1970s level labor force participation.

no disagreements there.
I happen to think corporations have been about as well behaved as we could have hoped for pre-pandemic. When given tax and regulatory concessions, there seemed to be a genuine sentiment to pay that forward.
It was working for all involved. As a capitalist, thats exactly what you want to see. Rather than debate getting back to that, we have governments talking about global UBI and massive tax increases with no end in sight to enhanced UI payments.

Anecdotal of course, but here is the situation our company is in. A little backstory is that we are a family owned business (100 years old) in the industrial distribution sector. We typically pay above industry average, with a very competitive benefits package. 15 years ago, we were one of 12 locally owned companies in our market, and now we are the last ones left.
The rest of the marketplace is now dominated by large global/National companies, who have deep enough pockets to overpay for barely qualified candidates. We simply can’t do that, and are now sitting here with 4 openings that we haven’t been able to get a sniff on a decent candidate on.
Anyone who thinks this is just about McDonald’s workers doesn’t have a clue what’s really happening right now.

Starting to feel mid-70ish.

There was an article last week on the labor shortage, particularly in the hotel and restaurant industry. Seems a lot of restaurant workers felt incredibly better while not working last year and realized the toll restaurant work took on their bodies and many have decided to pursue other careers.
Yeah that’s what’s happening. Restaurant workers have just moved on to better jobs. Sure thing.

Over half already have, is there a material difference in the labor shortages between those that have and those that have not?
The first four states to refuse enhanced UI and end the program are starting effective 6/12.

Stop making sense. Libs don’t understand sensibility and reality versus their lil’ fee fees.

Im not disputing anything you are saying, but what are you offering? If a company came to me and offered me a job that was 8-5 in the office everyday, I wouldn't even being to consider for less than like a 20% raise.
The pandemic changed shite. In a lot of skilled or professional sectors its an employee market

I usually don't agree with you but you're dead right on this - restaurant jobs aren't giving anyone but management full time jobs, and most of them are placed on a low salary and exploited because the max hours/week before overtime doesnt' apply to them. The hourly workers are capped at 20-30 hours per week and have to have multiple jobs to make ends meet, and if their schedules overlap and they cant be at two places at the same time? Well, they're going to eventually get fired and have to find another job that's going to treat them like shite.

Or a lot of people are lazy parasite pieces of shite that would rather receive a “free” (for them) check than work to earn an honest paycheck. You could also say that.

Entry level inside sales, around $50k base with commissions/bonuses and full benefits just a few years ago, we would have had hundreds of applications, now we get about 3 and 2 of them spelled their names wrong

They suddenly found their dignity. Labor is beneath them, and it doesn't have anything at all to do with that mailbox money.

You have to love the idiocy of the OT
"frick college, go learn a trade!"
Also "I can't seem to find a good welder for 16/hr!"
16 an hour is shite pay for skilled labor and it's criminal if you ever got away with paying that

And then be forced to raise their prices, squeezing them out of business that way. But hey, if globalization is what you want, than that is what you will get. Soon there will be just a handful of companies running the whole show

That’s their fault they have to work multiple part time jobs. Some of us have been there but worked to make our lives better. Now, our hard work and pay is subsidizing lazy pieces of shite who would rather sit at home and get drunk, do drugs and/or make more babies they can’t afford and won’t take care of that will take even more of the honest working folks’ money. frick you and frick them.
