Obviously I pulled the pics from the BBC's "Steptoe and Son"

Which was the inspiration for Sanford and Son.

Is that where you are allowed to start threads, Christopher?

What exactly don't you like about a lighthearted story with some crude humor? Can you do better?

Old Gramps used to look a lot older the last time I watched
“A Hard Day’s Night”.

True. Now he doesn’t seem that old in the screenshots.
We probably should avoid reruns of The Golden Girls.

Is this where this came from. My buddy says this all the time about women he knows.

I only wrote this yesterday so, no.

It's a common saying alluding that a woman has...experience. Unsure of the origin but I suspect it's rather old

Peggy O'

As we rowed up to Fennario
As we rowed up to Fennario
Our captain fell in love
With a lady like a dove
And he called her by name, Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs, holding back your yellow hair
In the hand??? ???, William-O
Will you marry me Pretty Peggy-O?
Will you marry me Pretty Peggy-O?
If you will marry me, I will set your cities free
And free all the people of the area-O
I would marry you sweet William-O
I would marry you sweet William-O
I would marry you but your guineas are too few
And I fear my mama would be angry-O
What would your mama think Pretty Peggy-O
What would your mama think Pretty Peggy-O
What would your mama think if she heard my guineas clink
Saw me riding at the head of my soldiers-O
If ever I return Pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return Pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return, all your cities I will burn
Destroy all the people in the area-O
Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs, holding back your yellow hair
Bid a last farewell to your William-O
Sweet William he is dead Pretty Peggy-O
Sweet William he is dead Pretty Peggy-O
Sweet William he is dead and he died for a maid
And he spent the loot he had in the country-O
As we rowed up to Fennario
As we rowed up to Fennario
Our captain fell in love
With a lady like a dove
And he called her by name, Pretty Peggy-O

TLDR: a pointless feckin story about a Randy old man and a greedy thieving tavern wench who both get their comeuppance
Can I try to put it in a song like Peggy O'?

Dude, be my guest. You play? How are you wanting to do it?

I can rework the whole thing in song form for you if you like. Even throw in a chorus

It's got a simple progression. It was written as kind of limerick poem, but that doesn't mean much.
I can give you some ideas about structure but hopefully *hint hint* some of the the most excellent lurkers will be willing to lend some of their wisdom

I know we have accomplished musicians on here, but even amateurs could share their knowledge and their journey.
May even be a surprise in it

We could come together and make this a folk song. A beautiful piece of art. The OT has the power.

Since you've suggested it as a song you've already given it much more life.

Now as as folk story/song, it's not really about an old nam mane...I mean and old Man named Seamus McCready*+*

It's about greedy Sarah McPhee.

Here's your chorus

Sarah McPhee, O' Sarah McPhee,
Yeah a wickeder woman well you never would see,
Though the kiss of her lips, it was sweeter than honey,
What McPhee loved McMost was McMoney.

I'll give credit to you and Sasquatch Smash for that. Without it I never would have seen that the bigger character here is Missus McPhee the wee bastard McPhee..well, he hasn't got a name yet. Perhaps we should let the OT name him?
