re: Freedom of Speech's costs are too high right now.

How about liberal Europeans?? I met a man the first day he'd moved here from Germany. In the first few days he mentioned how puzzled he was that there was talk in Europe of this southern "intolerance" and why it was that it was said some southerners take issue. That was nearly 20 years ago. Another few weeks here, he stopped by to tell me how he'd met and helped this wonderful man in the Walmart parking lot whose car was broken down on I-10 with his family in it, and loaned him $100. I said, "Walmart parking lot??", "you just fell for the oldest line in the book". He replied in heavy accent, "no, you're wrong, he was genuine and seemed very honest, he is a professor at a local college and he's going to call to send money when gets home to Atlanta". Then a month later, he was walking at night in his "Spanish Town" neighborhood and was robbed at gunpoint... not long after his home was burglarized and lost some valuable personal family items.

Today he's licensed concealed carry. I don't run into him often but when I do, this once bleeding heart, Euro-Lib uses the "word" like a an old school, Livingston, Duke disciple. True story so it does happen.

Fact. I lived up there long enough to “out” their dirty little secret. See Cicero, IL during MLK era. White flight started up there. They are also regionally prejudiced - thInk Southern whites are all shiftless, lazy, dumb, and barefooted.

Well your friend is German, so it’s inherent that he will hate other races. It’s in his dna he can’t help it, can stop it can only hope to contain it. He’s lost the battle on containing it.

Our feelings and opinions are all shaped by our life experiences. People in other parts of the US don't have southerners' experiences.

I’ve been personally told doing work for 2 black men that lived down here. One was a Vietnam vet, his daughter had moved down here and her husband who was probably mid 40s also down here. They were from Chicago. Both the black men said they had more white friends here in a month than they ever had up north and the old man stated he’s lived all over the place up north. Said you couldn’t pay a white man to come to your house or you go inside their home up north, but they will tell you all day long how much they love black people. Younger one said within a month of living here in north La, he had 3 white guys in his house watching football with him

ETA: I actually told them the old cliche id always heard, mostly from blacks about how southerners hated the group but loved the person and northerners love the group but hate the person. I asked them if that’s how it is and they both adamantly agreed. But the younger one laughed and said peoole here aren’t scared to tell a racist joke to your face either
