This has always been a big topic depending on your field of work. What form of pay is better and why?

It depends on the salary and hours you work

Hourly would be better if they pay you OT. Most don’t want to though.

Right

If you work a really aggressive schedule you would probably prefer hourly so you could accumulate OT pay

If I was asked at my current job to go salary I'd tell them make it north of 200K or I'm walking

Salary for me only because I rarely work a 40 hour week and work from home a couple days out of the week. I also take long lunch breaks 'on the clock'.

Day rate was best

Doesnt matter if i worked 10 minutes passed midnight i got paid for that day. Especially nice when day rates were up and i got 50 bucks a day per trainee.

So where I used to work, management was salaried but all the analysts were hourly.

One manager told me he would pay to get hourly.

He would probably make 3 times as much hourly as he would from his bonus.

Salary. Typically comes with better benefits, more flexible schedule, and more time off.

Obviously, of we're talking straight wage hourly would be better if you work over 2080 per year, but those other forms of compensation are pretty damn valuable.

It comes down to personal preference.

I’m salaried. I know guys who do work that is similar to mine and they’re hourly. Some of them make more per hour, but they don’t have as much flexibility as I do. They can’t just take a 2-3 hour long lunch or log on at 10AM because they were at their kids school.

EDIT: what REALLY sucks is being salaried and working for a crappy employer that still tracks your hours and demands that you’re there 9-6. Been there.

I’ve been on salary for over 20 years.love it.
When I get assigned to a special project and work overtime I’m given a nice project bonus so I’m taken care of.

I’m strictly salary but I’m pretty much expected to work 40 hours at minimum.

It’s pretty much the worst of both worlds.

I'm quasi salary/hourly. Have a set salary for 40 hour work week, but I get OT. I mostly take comp time instead though, because I like the time off.

I can’t believe some of you actually think this is a legit debate.

You don't do that on salary without some form of compensation for it. I work over 40 hours a week a lot of times, but I can get bonuses on projects and we have a lot of variable comp and the more you produce the higher that is.
