The CDC's "updated guidelines" on masks

So it took the CDC 8 months to figure out that a piece of cloth that blocks aerosols 10 microns or larger in one direction, will block aerosols 10 microns or larger in the other direction as well?
Like, really? Was there widespread repurposing of swifter wet jet pads as masks that I hadn't heard about? How in the holy frick could anyone have thought that a uniform piece of fabric would filter aerosols with directional asymmetry?
I am officially no longer bullish on the continued viability of our species.

So people that are worried about it can wear their mask with confidence that it will protect them, and those that don't feel need to wear can go about their lives as they please as well?

Was common sense but the mask messaging from day 1 has been screwed up.
First Fauci says no need.
Then they only work in one direction.

The mask are nothing more than theatre meant to make people "feel good". They aren't going to prevent, stop, or even slow the spread of a virus. If you have been ANYWHERE in public since, at least, July, 90% of the people are wearing masks to some degree. Yet, the scary virus is now surging at cataclysmic rates....again.

If people would just follow the recommendations, this would be closer to being over. I know the reccomendations change, but our knowledge of this specific virus and the situation changes.
The more we know about how masks work, the better we can convince people to wear them. Just look at this site to see how ignorant people are. Most on here think this is a joke.
