The Texas Department of Public Safety has asked the state's Office of the Attorney General to prevent the public release of police body camera footage from the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde in part because, it argues, the footage could be used by other shooters to determine "weaknesses" in police response to crimes.

The office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will now review audio and body camera footage recorded by the department to determine if any of it can be released, according to a letter the department sent Motherboard in response to a public records request we filed asking for "photographs and audio as well as video records" recorded by Department of Public Safety officers.

“Revealing the marked records would provide criminals with invaluable information concerning Department techniques used to investigate and detect activities of suspected criminal elements; how information is assessed and analyzed; how information is shared among partner law enforcement agencies and the lessons learned from the analysis of prior criminal activities,” the department wrote in a letter to the Office of the Attorney General that asked the office to prevent the release of the public records. “Knowing the intelligence and response capabilities of Department personnel and where those employees focus their attention will compromise law enforcement purposes by enabling criminals to anticipate weakness in law enforcement procedures and alter their methods of operation in order to avoid detection and apprehension.”

It’s probably a good time for them to reevaluate their tactics

I believe all body and dash cam video should be available on line within 24 hours of its recording.

For every police department in the country.

Many times these "police brutality" crap turned out to be a good shoot on someone who was armed or clearly not following instructions to do what the officer was telling them to do.

Then a bunch of shite gets looted, burned and torn up. All of which could have been avoided with timely release of the video.

The only editing of the video I would support would be if the recording contained a sexual assault or some guys dong flopping around.

When you make a public information request, be sure to ask for “all”, not “any” of something. For example, a request for “all emails related to…” will be treated differently than a request for “any emails related to…”

I hope that helps.

“If you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide!”

Most of this board should be old enough to remember when the government was dismissing legitimate concern about civil liberties overreach in the wake of 9/11 with this crappy response.

Time for them to get a taste of their own medicine if you ask me!

What's the point of having the bodycams if the footage is just going to get suppressed?

Considering it took them an hour to get involved, if anyone wants to shoot a school up in city, they've got roughly an hour to go hamm before anyone comes from them.

Great message U.P.D.

From initial call to post-massacre PR, could these organizations have possibly handled this any worse?

Well yeah, of course they do. In the death of civilians, should not be an option.

The weaknesses were that these cocksuckers were scared and didn’t try to save those children.

Dogs not sheep!

We can’t let the criminals know the police walk thru the door and shoot at anyone that’s shooting at them

I think y’all pussies cowering outside telling the mass shooter to pretty please come out for 77 minutes is all the evidence a mass murderer needs.

What was that we've heard from numerous officers who said there's no way they'd do what the Uvalde PD did and that they should all be fired/charged?

This is the part of the movie where they all close ranks, right?

Knowing the intelligence and response capabilities

They're all overweight, uneducated, and could qualify for no other profession than being a cop. They are, in most cases, the least among the working class. What could possibly be learned from the video that we don't already know?

If it exonerates the cops, release it. If it condemns them, suppress it.

That's the point.
