@TeslaSolar roof stood up to #HurricaneIan with 155mph winds and a 10’ storm surge! This Powerwall was underwater for hours and is still working perfectly.
Looks like they were close to the water

Solar array/batteries or hardlined nat gas generator + starlink + EV is by miles the best set up for staying for a storm.

Pretty impressive for any electronics.

You know the shitstorm this will start on this site? Here we go with the EV evacuation debate again.

So a setup sealed against water held up to water? Sweet? Whatever.
The roof holding up is a different animal.

The PW is a fricking beast. I was there when one of the big IE firms did the fire and flood testing on them and we were shooting nail guns at them point blank, did a week + submersion and everything else we could think of.

Solar shingles are way better than regular shingles for storm performance. They're actually attached with something other than nails through tar.
But even normal solar panels hold up quite well if the installation is done properly. Almost all the damage from normal solar arrays in hurricanes can be attributed to poor installation for the location.

Or, having 125mph+ missiles slam into them repeatedly.

Put some of those on Blue Shed and you wouldn't even have to evacuate.

Hours of being submerged after being hit with 150 MPH winds and there was no penetration is impressive no matter how you slice it.

The panels are basically layered acrylic and glass much like bullet proof glass is.

Storage battery for your solar roof panels. Lets you run stuff off of the stored electricity from your solar roof panels

Impact damage is pretty low from what I've seen. It takes a lot to shatter them and even then they still work but will need to be replaced eventually. Hurricane Maria and Supertyphoon Utu saw a few % with impact damage.
The biggest issue was older installations with clips to hold the module in place. The module would flex and pop out. leaving the clips in place. Most high wind areas through bolt them now. That and straight up racking failures form junk manufacturing or installation was 95% of the damage.

You can store grid power in a PW since it's AC coupled. But of course you won't have a way to recharge it unless you have a generator. And just don't claim any tax credit or the tax man will come for you.

Going to get some baws riled up with this thread

I still have water in my LED floodlights just from driving wind and rain during Laura

I'd say you don't get more of an extreme test than that. Time for Joe to start getting the whole gulf cost some Tesla solar roofs

Saying this is an amazement, is like saying you are amazed your house turned back on after the power company restored your electricity.
and for the record i would love to have solar if the application suited my needs.
