GM retail for a brand new 4L80E is $2500. You can find them all day long for $1500 online and HD aftermarket ones from $1700 and up

Eta: You could probably get a junkyard one for $750

What is the labor rate that most transmission shops charge nowadays? How many hours does the computer book it as?

Manual though right? Why would that be a bunch compared to a slush box?

4.5hrs for 2wd
5.8hrs for 4wd
labor rates run between 85-125

keep in mind most shops will double their labor if you bring them a trans to put in.

Curious how I was treated when getting my little cousins car fixed who stays with us.

2001 Taurus, not sure what tranny or if more than one was used then but V6 if that helps.
Torque Converter went out is what I was told. Also fixed a couple broke mounts. Paid $900. That was suppose to be a freind deal and I was just happy it wasn't 1500.
