that the script has flipped, parents won't parent their kids, and teachers have to set that example.
It's worse than that. As is evident by this particular story, and The Dude's Rug, not only do parents not parent their kids, but when the teacher or school disciplines the student the parents get upset at the teacher/school, not the kid.

My wife is a teacher at Oxford and they're rated as the top district in the state last I heard. Their policy is to allow cell phone use as long as its disruptive. They can have them out or whatever during class. Doesn't bother my wife a bit. They also issue every kid a MacBook so everything they do is on electronics just about.

Drive 90 minutes north to Memphis and I bet it would bother her. The students you have determine a lot.

Why do only high school teachers get so bent out of shape about phones? If you are playing a game that makes noises that disrupts the class, sure I could see taking action. But just because a kid is texting or browsing something, that is not disrupting the class, whats the big deal? Are they just butthurt because the kid isn't paying attention to them?
You are a fricking moron. I haven't read the rest of the thread but I'm guessing I'm not the first to call you that. And hopefully it has been pointed out the dumbass kid was in 4th grade.

Totally irrelevant. THIS school has a no phones policy. Deal with it.

Uh, how do you think people got in touch with their kids in an emergency before the advent of cell phones?

Your kid is in school to LEARN. Not play on his/her phone.
Geez, I don't know where they get some of you people.

Back in my HS days (65-69) if you crossed one of the priests or brothers you got your arse kicked and then got your arse kicked again when you got home. Some of that may have been extreme, but what teachers have to put up with today is ridiculous.
Damn thugs. I hope they are prosecuted and do time.

My son got his phone taken away for two weeks for having his phone ring while in gym class. He dealt with it. Seems like his grades spiked while it was gone too.

Are you serious? You're in favor of kids dicking around on their phones during class time?
The fricks wrong with you?
