The rest of your post is stupid, but I agree with this part. Don't see why the teachers care so much. If they don't pay attention, they'll fail. Let it come back on them.

Valid point. Hope we can work to fix this in the future.

We need to start separating the wheat from the chaf at a young age.

Get the brightest and most driven into classes with each other and put the less intelligent and the dregs who don't care into their own classes.

Elevate our best and brightest.

My wife used to teach high school and some little shite stole her cell phone. Guy texted from it, so I started calling the numbers. Basically told them he was texting from a stolen cell phone and if they didn't tell me who it was, they're an accessory to a crime. They spilled the beans and that POS was expelled and arrested.

If the students fail, the teachers get the blame and their jobs are put at risk

i tend to agree

at least at the college level, i do not care if students are on the phone AS LONG AS ITS not disrupting my lectures

if they fail because they're not paying attention - why should that concern me? its their money

We do half of this.

In our school system, middle school and high school have honors classes for the best students. In elementary school, we "track" and have a high-level class. Basically one section of each grade is made up of the smarter kids and a challenging teacher, and they go more in-depth into the material than the regular, run of the mill classes.

The problem is the average students get stuck it the same classes with the turds. We need to have the opposite of honors classes - a section of each class where all the turds go who are just being babysat.

Problem is, who in their right mind would teach this class?

My wife retired 3 years ago after 27 years, and this was one of the reasons, that the script has flipped, parents won't parent their kids, and teachers have to set that example. Teachers are terribly underappreciated, and put up with tremendous stupidity.

Cheating?

Also... I think there is a dramatic difference between college classes and 4th grade when it comes to the responsible and respectful use of technology.

Also, in public school... it's not their money... it's all of our money, lol

Seriously. Teachers are blamed when a child fails, not the child or the parents.

That, ISO, is one of the drivers behind all of the cheating that has been in the news.

Well, that and the money promised by the Fed.

Every year teachers in LA get evaluated.

50% of their evaluation is based on observations

50% of their evaluation is based on test scores

The Japanese have a fairly good system when it comes to school setup. Their method of drilling facts over and over is problematic, but the tiering of classes into multiple groups based on ability is the correct course.

We should do that here.
