I went to “summer school” in 9th grade when I was going through some family issues and DGAF in school
Similar situation but i stupidly gave up on school in like 11th grade. My mom wanted me to, at the very least, graduate so i bit the bullet and took some summer school classes to make it out of there. In a Geometry class we watched that Bruce Willis movie Armageddon twice for some reason. Also did Economics and the "teacher" was a self proclaimed treasure hunter so we watched movies on sunken treasure ships. I graduated in 2003 and this is all i remember from High School.

Also, are they requiring you to pay for the class? The school system i was in was always trying to get money out of parents and students however they could. They even tried a thing where you could pay to get out of detention.

What kind of qualifications do you need in Louisiana to teach highschool Math? I work as a licensed engineer (only undergrad) and could see myself leaving my career in my 50s to go teach kids math.

You’d have to do an alternative pathway and pass the praxis. The alternative pathway takes like a year, but you can teach under a PL-1 certification as long as you pass the praxis and enroll in an alternative program. As an engineer, you’ll have no problem with the praxis at all. Hell, with a proper high school education, you should be able to pass it. I’m talking about the content-based praxis and not the praxis 1. You don’t have to take the praxis 1 unless you scored lower than a 23 on the ACT

No, it’s free because of the covid money that poured in. I’m starting to think they’re doing it because of the messed up year the teachers and students had. They’re all behind and I figure they’re trying to give them a boost this summer to make up for it. I don’t have a problem with that and would send him to it, but I still have trouble understanding why it’s required for him to be promoted to 7th grade.

He needed a C in the 2nd semester to have enough quality points to pass the course.
