Subaru Outback a good buy for the wife as daily driver?
She seems pretty set this is the car she wants for a mid-size SUV. They seem to be same class as CR-V and RAV4.

I was in an Uber the other day and they seem nice and the guy claimed they were dependable as hell. They could go 300,000, which I identified as BS.

I'm not familiar with these foreign cars and not much for vehicle maintenance besides the normal (oil change, filters, etc.) do it yourself things.

He claimed the AWD has never failed and dealing with snow it has been helpful.

Anyway, any thoughts or feedback would be helpful. They are running 0% right now and it's a good incentive since we will only put about $5,000 down.

I always thought it was a lesbian vehicle but forgetting the stereotype, it's Japanese made and the reviews seem to be good for putting around the city.

As long as you put 50 different liberal bumper stickers on the back and go hiking often.

Yeah it's a very good car. You can run it forever and resale value (at least around here) is high.

Subaru builds a tough and relibale car. They just seem to always lack the modern accessories that other car manufacturers make standard. The radio/tech available tot he driver is limited.

I bought a Forester a few months back (started a thread on it here prior to the purchase) and so far I have no regrets. Great ground clearance and it performs really well in snow if you live anywhere that gets it. Unless I start to have mechanical issues I can see my next purchase down the line being another Subaru.

Edit: post above about lacking the most modern gadgets is absolutely true. For me, that’s a plus (I’m not interested in any of that stuff). For others, like my coworker who bought a new Mazda 6 with every feature available, it’s a downside (he doesn’t understand why anyone would want such a ‘plain’ car).

She’ll stop shaving and start eating trail mix ASAP. Outside of that, it is a dependable vehicle.

They re great cars, seem to last forever, and very safe. The all wheel drive is great to have anywhere that it rains a lot. One of my sons lives in the Pacific Northwest where almost nothing else is allowed on the roads, he sold the first one with 285K miles, has 265K on the current one, they were both used , and he plans to buy a new one for his girlfriend. I am considering a Outback to replace my wife's current SUV, if I didn't need a truck I would have one.

Just get one of these. I'm at 30k on my RAV4 I bought last July and it's been amazing.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of the sensible shoes.
