State Farm paying housing expense for evacuations
Has anyone heard if State Farm has made a decision on this?
I have made my deductible on my damage claim and would like to get paid for my housing expense.

It’s called loss of use and yes it pays out. It’s 30% of your dwelling coverage. Just like EVERY other company, the loss of use has to be due to a covered loss. Lack of power isn’t a covered loss.

your house has to be uninhabitable due to your covered (storm related) loss. The power being out doesn’t mean it’s uninhabitable

We have MetLife and they’re paying us for loss of use… a tree fell through the house though

Adjuster hasn’t come. Keeps changing the date. Mold and ceiling falling in uninhabitable and still on a boil advisory normal? Or we have to imagine it’s ok to live in a 3rd world country. Serious question

You have a duty to keep any additional damages from occurring. You can’t just let stuff rot while you wait.

For your own sake, take pictures and get rid of the wet stuff.

Insurance company said they would send someone to tarp it. They haven’t. Applied for blue roof. Haven’t come yet.

That would qualify as a covered loss because the house is inhabitable due to a tree falling through it. Lack of power doesn’t make a home uninhabitable.

State Farm told me the same thing but they denied my claim for the tubs of Rid (desiccant) that I purchased due to the moisture from a roof leak and humidity from lack of power. This was from Hurricane Laura.

Uninhabitable would depend on how widespread it is….one room or a majority of the house?

on a boil advisory
Thats a weekly occurrence in Orleans Parish even when the weather is nice out. But in seriousness, you can easily get by under a boil water advisory. You can still shower, bathe, wash dishes, do laundry, and flush toilets as you normally would. Just use bottled water for brushing teeth or consumption.

I know the insurance commissioner is trying to force companies to reimburse evacuation expenses but I think that only applied for 14 days. Since we’re more than 2 weeks post-storm now, I would be sure to get approval from your adjuster on loss of use before incurring any new expenses from that and keep receipts on any expenses you’ve already had

Still no power and boil advisory. No plan for power until sat at earliest. That’s loss of use and I’ll fight it tooth and nail.
