Then you aren't that informed, sorry.

Okay.

So it's not a public debate?

That said, as I have stated repeatedly, Together BR will be there and they are always looking for informed, intelligent speakers and debaters. If you would like to participate on their behalf, contact together br. You can't possibly be any worse than they have been.

I believe it's called "Better Together Baton Rouge". As I've said 100 times, I personally don't see the need for the new municipality but I don't have an issue with an effort to create one and proper discussion from both sides.

But lately, I think the people behind the curtain must be starting to fall apart. It sort of feels like it's losing steam.

It isn't losing steam. It just isn't new news anymore.

Ok, I'm on the fence. I want there to be a super solid, no holds barred debate somewhere, where the media is in full force and every single question is on the table.

No more backing out. Whomever backed out to this point - fine. But from this point on, NO MORE BACKING OUT.

There you go. I just got the movement back on track. Your welcome. Now get people to start answering some damn questions.

That article was a stunt, and you fell for it.

Was the debate cancelled or not?

Did one side say they didn;t want the Advocate there or not?

I'll hang up and listen...

How could you not have an issue with St George walking away from the legacy costs that Baton Rouge will get stuck with?

Aren't you north of the proposed St George?

Yes,and yes. The Advocate writer tried to insinuate that it was St.George that backed out, but they provided no evidence to prove that. Instead they asked Tania Nyman, of Together BR, if she personally had a problem with media. The host of the debate did not state who backed out, however Together BR recently hired a new media consultant that basically told Tania and a few others to hush, for the time being.

It is being held in a neighborhood. I beleive they are welcoming outside guests, but it isn't my place to say.

Their facebook page is titled "Residents against the Breakaway", their signs say "Better Together", and their organization name is Together BR, from what I can tell. Their branding and marketing is a complete clusterfrick.

Together BR is/was the group of preachers and religious leaders supporting Baton Rouge initiatives such as, but not limited to, the CATS property tax increase.

If it's by invitation only then it's not a public debate, dumbass. That alone tells me you're lying about it.

If the SG organizers are doing so well in their behind closed door "debates", why won't they appear in a public forum?? What are they hiding?? What are they afraid of??

And yes, it was Rainey who backed out of the latest public forum which was sponsored by a neutral entity, a club made up of LSU Law School students.

Rainey didn't deny it was he who didn't want the media there. He just said he didn't cancel the forum, which is true because once he said he didn't want the media there, the sponsor canceled the forum.

So when Russian posts and gives us his speculation on things, he doesn't need to post a link. But when any pro-SG person post anything, we need a link?

Thanks for letting me know Russian's brown-noser

It wasn't speculation on my part. The OP of this thread has the link to the article which says:
quote:

“We didn’t agree to do this debate in front of the media,” he (Rainey) said, but he maintained his group was not the one that canceled the event.
That's what I referred to. If you would just read the links already given that are being discussed in the thread you wouldn't come off looking so stupid.

It's right there in the article there were four panelists:

Richardson and Delvin (financial and legal impact - neutral)

quote:

Richardson and Devlin also said Monday that they didn’t object to media coverage or have scheduling problems that would have necessitated the event to be canceled last minute.

“I did not object to the press being in attendance — I talk to the press all the time,” Richardson said, adding the issue ultimately will have to be debated publicly, despite objections from either side.

Devlin said he had no idea why the event was canceled.

“It was certainly not because of any problem or conflict of mine,” he said.

Tania Nyman - Against the Breakaway

quote:

Nyman said she also was informed Saturday that another panelist did not want the media to attend.

“I received a phone call that the media would be there asking me if I had any objections because one of the other panelists did,” she said. “I called back and said that’s no problem with me, and they told me it was canceled.”

And Rainey from St. George

quote:

Lionel Rainey, a spokesman for the St. George incorporation effort, denied his group raised the concerns.

Asked if he thought the forum should be public, he said he was “indifferent.”

“We didn’t agree to do this debate in front of the media,” he said,

just from reading this thread the St. George supporters in here just seem to be saying "Nuh uh, you guys are stupid"

And insulting people who are on the fence and just seeking more information (without going to unpublicized meetings where they weren't invited) isn't going to help them gain support.

BTW, I believe the debate/meeting set for tonight is at Jefferson United Methodist Church at 7, as part of a neighborhood civic association meeting. Someone posted it on the SG FB page.

Sounds to me like SG supporter found out John Devlin was a panelist and ran for the hills.

Don't blame him.
