I got to thinking about the myspace/Facebook thread and started thinking about which subscriptions/services are not trying to screw me.

Good
-Netflix
-Hulu

To me, the price has never changed on me in years, no hidden fees, no contract, and they allow multiple users (my wife and I can watch at the same time in different rooms or cities).

Bad
-SirusXM
-DirectTV

Always changing rates, requiring contracts, charge you for service calls, etc.

When DirecTV wants to charge for a service call, I always say "Ok, cancel it." followed by "Yes, I'm sure. Cancel it.". That gets followed by "Ok Mr. 3deadtrolls, we'll waive the charge this time.". Stay on them and they'll always bend.

Last time they said they would waive it if I got the “warranty package” for $7.99 which I did then promptly cancled the next month. What pissed me off the most is that it was one of the wireless genei’s that got the new update and froze which was their fault. Both the tech support on the phone and the guy who came out assured me no charge, yet low and behold a $100 charge on my next bill.

Another BS stunt they pulled is renewing my two year contract when I added a new wireless box in the spare bedroom without my knowledge. I’m cutting the cord when it is up.

$Shave is money. TV Guide isn't what it used to be.

I would probably give up cable before SiriusXM. Spend way too much time in the car.

Garden & Gun.

I always feel like a well-heeled, refined southern gentleman of leisure after reading an issue.

I subscribe to a couple magazines that I don’t think are a ripoff. Nat Geo History and Biblical Archaeology Review.

Anyone who pays full price for this is a sucker. I've been on 5 month promotional rates for about 5 years now.

Darksky weather app. Has the best radar and gives notifications on when it is about to rain.

I was outside at a graduation this past school year and got an alert on my phone saying rain in 15 mins. It didn't look like it was going to rain but I told our group we should head inside. Shortly after people were pouring in soaked
