So much litter has washed off of Baton Rouge streets that it is causing a flood hazard

Louisiana....you are trashy. Literally.
This is just south of the I-10/I-12 split behind Concord Estates. So much garbage has washed out of Baton Rouge's streets and flowed into Ward Creek and deposited into this area that it's actually at risk of blocking the creek and causing a flood hazard.
As you are well aware, Louisiana RARELY maintains it's critical drainage infrastructure. So this stuff piles up for years.

It could cost up to $1 million to clean up. The litter catching equipment to prevent this would cost $100,000.

Some concerned residents want something done about an acre of land in Baton Rouge that's covered in trash and debris.
"It should be treated the same way we treat sewage because it's so dangerous," Marie Constantine said.

Constantine is one of several residents trying to draw attention to the trash covered area. It's located near Valley Forge Ave and I-12, in a property that belongs to LSU's Botanic Garden.

This before or after the studies and lunches?

I bet a lot of that washed into that creek during the 2016 floods and they are just now noticing it.

Prisoners, or put people in prison for littering.

You would think a state whose entire landscape is one big low lying flood plain full of lakes rivers and swamps that this would be a top priority

Yet another reason LP > BR. I rarely, if ever, see litter along my commute

Litter is the one thing that makes me the most ashamed of this state when I have visitors in from out of state. We are literally a trashy state.

You think LP is better than any other parish when it comes to infrastructure maintenance?

But LP tops the nation in scrapyards per capita.....

One man’s trash is another man treasure

Prisoners
Rapides Parish has a prison worker system that should be mirrored across the state. Instead of just warehousing non-violent felons that are serving time, they put them to use doing things like weed eating highways, litter pickup, raking of parks and the military base, cleaning drainage ditches, etc.
In exchange, they feed them decent food, better visitor conditions and let them smoke cigarettes that they buy for 300% markup. The crews are out daily WORKING and behave when they are locked up because they see this as a privilege over complete shite dog food and being caged all day.
It’s win-win. Makes sense no matter how you look at it. EBRP just keeps people locked in dorms doing absolutely nothing but devising crime plans and making connections for when they get out.

I am always astounded by the trash that collects in the canal at Stanford and West (?) Lakeshore Drive where you turn to go into campus. After any rainfall that canal is covered in trash. Didn’t mayor SWB just announce a crack down on littering?

Litter catching equipment guy needs to offer as big a kickback as the guy who sells/rents equipment for the cleanup. Problem solved.

That’s optimistic. She just figured out you can call the police if you have an emergency.

That reporter WBRZ keeps sending out to scenes is fricking awful. He reads like he's in 4th grade.

Supa, that sounds too sensible. BR, can’t do anything that makes that much sense.
We’ll just continue to kick the can down the road and pay way more after a problem gets out of control. Then, our politicians can point the finger at previous leadership and act like they didn’t see it coming.
