Used to eat at that Griff’s in Ruston as a child back in the early-mid 70’s while visiting my grandparents and while in college at Tech late 80’s. Hard to believe that it is still there.

Two places come to mind:
Hamburger joint on Hwy. 1 in Morganza. I don't remember the name but the burgers and fries were fantastic. We would stop there on the way to and coming from our camp at Old River
Burger delite on Airline in Gonzales. As long as you didn't look in the back and see the cook cooking it, it was spot on. Best chocolate shake I have ever had. Frank has Griffin Grill in Dutchtown and he does a good job with the burgers there

Borden’s on Johnston (Lafayette). Best damn chocolate malt I’ve ever had.
But back before Red Lerelle bought it and over-commercialized it.

I don't go home anymore because no one in my family lives there, but I grew up in Bozeman, MT.
There was a restaurant across the street from the high school called La Parrilla. A little mexican burrito shop, but they had an alfredo burrito filled with noodles and alfredo sauce that was soooo good.
Totally healthy too.

Gallagher’s in Covington is still my go to for an excellent dinner. The stuffed Chicken breast has been around since his time at the Winner’s Circle.
The Mariner in Hammond still has some solid burgers.

Lea’s severely disappoint me and wife last time we ate there. Wife makes pies like Lea’s used to make when the old man was still alive. It’s only around due to nostalgia now I believe.
Another is Graysons BBQ in Clarence La, very underwhelmed last time I ate there. I remember it being off the chain as a kid or maybe it wasn’t as good then either??

When I go home to Opelousas I try to hit up either Pizza Shack or Mamas Fried Chicken. Nothing in BR comes close to either that I have found.

Mamas dirty rice was legit as the bird, still good?

RIP Burger Bar here in Leesville. Was run by a mom a pop that lived up the street from us. There were 6 kids in our family and we each had our own burger named for each of us because he knew what we wanted on our burgers. Mostly just cheese, meat and bun. Curly fries were fire as was their malts. Not far from the house but there was a path thru the woods we would bike to get there. Even though we weren't related we called em aunt and uncle.

quote:Quite the opposite. I wish Lea's were good so we wouldn't have to have something "new and trendy".
The hipsters that think every old place sucks and only want something new and trendy are more insufferable imo.

What about Big John's in Ferriday? Last time I ate there (which will, in fact, be the last) it seemed as if the fries were made with 5 year old potatoes cooked in 10 year old nasty oil.

I have t been since they changed ownership. Is it still good? Their burgers were on point back in the day.
I actually haven't been there in many years, but I follow them on Facebook. Every time they post something, makes me hungry ... lol.

My hometown is Auburn and nothing lasts that long in a college town. Momma Goldberg's is still there and the original location is still popular, but it's changed. It was once a true deli with a much larger assortment of meats, cheeses, and breads. It's now a dozen set sandwiches and minimal build your own selections.
Mrs Story's Dairy Bar, in Opelika but I will claim it, still makes the best chili dogs ever. It would have to be the oldest restaurant in the area.
Country's BBQ is still cooking, and has actually gotten better with their new pitmaster (one of Tuberville's former assistants). It was always good for home cooking and now the BBQ is good too.
Byron's BBQ is there, but it's been sold and, from what I hear, is not as good as it once was.
