The companies selling these will be have the same liability as the people who sell smokes and booze.

In real numbers, what are the addiction/fatality rates of heroin users versus those for people who drink alcohol/smoke cigarettes?

The notion that the potential liability for sellers is completely comparable seems quite a bit out of whack to me.

I promise you that it is cheaper in Colorado than New Orleans

Exactly. The prices skyrocketed the first week it was legal in CO but it's back to normal now.

As it becomes more available in other states, competition will lower prices and drive innovation (choice)

This, I don't know why people cannot understand simple economics.

CO has no competition for legal weed. Competition brings innovation, which drives down cost, which drives up demand, which drives down cost, etc.

We wouldn't know until it became regulated. Most of the heroin deaths are because people don't know what they are getting.

Have you ever dealt with a bad drug addict? You need to go live around one for 10 years then get back to me on your opinion about legalized hard drugs.

How are you not understanding this? No one is arguing on the negative effects of drugs and how they affect immediate family members. Everyone is simply stating that it should be a choice and the government shouldnt be in the way of said choice. Have you ever lived with an alcoholic? Alcohol is legal, what's the difference?

That strikes me as a terribly speculative statement.

Legalizing marijuana hasn't put weed dealers out of business at all. People don't want to be on lists. I'm not sure how making everything legal will affect much of anything.

Legal prescription drugs kill more than illegal drugs. There's a good thread on this on the poli board.

Alcohol is the most dangerous drug for it's users. LINK

Alcohol is linked to 75,000 deaths a year. I imagine it's far more deadly than anything else because it's used the most. Still, it's considered more dangerous to the user than cocaine or heroin.

Is that doctor prescribed use?

Isn't the premise of this thread that I would be able to get any and all I want without a doctor?

I'm not sure how this furthers the argument.

Also, I'd like some evidence that says this is the case with heroin, for percentage of people using.

It's not meant to. It's just to provide context.

Best I can find is a chart. You can find the drug induced mortality on the chart and compare. Looks like heroin is more deadly (rate), but less dangerous overall.

LINK

It's generally accepted that the purity of heroin is responsible for some overdoses.
